Some of you may remember my previous "What a weekend" post from a few months ago where I picked up a lot of parts. Well, today is the day that I go back for more. My friend Victor (also a fellow FTE'r) and I are about to embark on a 4 hour journey up north to pick up a freshly built 226 for his truck, then heading back south to pick a 51 Panel and other misc parts for me, and finally a third stop along the way to pick up three gas pumps for me and several 48-52 front and rear fenders that he bought.
It'll be a long day, hopefully without any legendary Chris and Bob style antics. So, sit back, relax and keep checking in for updates as we travel Northern California to pick up rusty gold.
Ah ha, I see your up raiding our local rust fields again, LOL. It sounds as if your on a pretty tight schedule, so have a safe trip, and may the hoarders of the past give up there best treasures for you.
Where's the drama? The intrigue? The betrayal? This screenplay needs some work...
If it's anything like me and my parts buddy, we would stop at BBQ places, strip joints, casinos, and fireworks stores along the way. Gettin' the parts is only half the purpose of a long drive.
Ran into a "Chris and Bob" issue. Got a blow out on the trailer. I have roadside assistance but they likely won't tow because I have the Panel loaded on it. We're stuck on the side of the freeway 3 miles from the nearest Les Schwab. Called Les Schwab and they can send a truck out to change the tire or all tires. May be stuck on the side of the freeway for a few hours.
When I have dinner with the 70 year old rodders that I know, ALL of the stories where someone got shot in the ***, stunned while whizzing on an electric fence, sprayed with manure by a passing road train full of cattle, or attacked by a wild emu, happened on the side of the road after a tyre blowout on a cheap old rented/borrowed/stolen trailer while fully loaded.
Got to Les Schwab and had all tires replaced. Not cheap but had to do it. Now on way to final stop and then home.
Many years ago, before I found an old truck, I was into running bird dogs in field trials. I bought a horse before I bought a trailer, but I knew a guy I could borrow a trailer from. 50 miles from home on the way to northern California, a trailer tire blew. I replaced all of them as well. Didn't want to worry about the other 3 going flat while I had a borrowed trailer.
