Trim model on a 1976 f150??

So i'm very confused... I have a '76 f150. From what i've noticed, only explorers have the hood emblem, and mine has a hood emblem mount.. Only thing is the emblem is broken off. Yet my dash says Custom on it. Can anyone help me out??

See the little mount??

My 76 explorer has "custom" on the glove box door, too.

Mine does have the explorer stripes/decals. There were different levels of the explorer package. Yours is probably with the stripe/decal delete option.

The "Explorer" was a limited time option package offered each year. The Explorer had four different levels. You could order an Explorer A, B, C or D package.
The Explorer was a group of options packaged together at a discount plus some items that were only available on the Explorer.
The Explorer interior was unique and not available on any other trim level.
Most Explorers were ordered on the base Custom trucks although it was also available on the Ranger level trucks.
The earlier (pre-75) trucks didn't have the hood ornament.
The packages started with "A", that included the unique interior, Explorer stripes on the exterior, chrome box rails on the 8 foot bed, tie down cleats on the shortbed, chrome front bumper w/ bumper guards and impact pads, bright windshield and roof drip mouldings, exterior Explorer name plates, there were also some exterior colors that could only be ordered on the Explorer.
Package "B" added power steering and an automatic transmission.
Package "C" added air conditioning and tinted glass.
Package "D" added the factory topper. If package D was ordered, the box rails were deleted.
My Explorer also has the "custom" nameplate on the glove box.
Also, the exterior stripes changed each year.

Oh, I see. That's very helpful information! I was wondering about all of these, yet I'm still confused as to why it doesn't have the stripes. I understand the delete option, but I don't see why anyone would want that. Anywho, thank y'all for responding to this! I have a lot off my chest now knowing it's an Explorer. Well, I think so. Now I have to figure out whether or not it's a 360 or 390...

What's the paint code?
If the truck has been repainted at some point in it's past, it's very likely the stripes were not reapplied.
Also, whats the fourth character of the VIN? If its a "Y" the truck left the factory with a 360, "H" is a 390 2bbl and "M" is a 390 4bbl.
Of course, after nearly 40 years, whats in it now can be questioned.

Just save your self a lot of hassle and post your VIN and info plate on the door jam and one of our many knowledgeable members will decode it all for you. That's what I did

Alrighty, I'll check that in the morning. The engine was rebuilt, and you know people, they may have replaced the crank and rods to a 390 instead of back to a 360. Personally I would have done that. I'm just big on learning more about this beautiful truck so I can fully restore it to original condition.

I'll sure do that. I will hopefully have time for it in the morning. If not, I'll get it posted within the next few days.
