I was told by a friend that spraying penetrating lubricant on squeaky leaf springs would quiet them down but it seems to have made the situation worse. I was able to find one thread here that suggested motorcycle chain spray. Any other thoughts or suggestions? FYI my truck is a 64 F100.

How much spraying do you do? I spray mine down periodically; both sides & bottom, at the eyes, the shackles, and at the perches. You need to give it enough to work its way in between the leaves, take it for a drive allowing the springs to move, then when you get back home give them some more spray on the sides. I use diesel fuel in a quart-sized trigger spray bottle. Works for me!
I jacked the front end up and sprayed penetrating lubricant in between the leafs as well as the sides. I also swapped out the shocks (what a difference that made!) but I have not checked the bushings. That'll be todays task. I think the old shocks were the noise culprits and the PL just needed more time to do it's thing because my drive home from work yesterday was no where near as noisy as before. I think this poor truck hasn't received any attention in a looong time. I bought it from a pawn shop so I know nothing of it's history.
Grandpa told me once that before he went to town on Saturday night he would pick the back end of his car off the ground with a loader and slap some grease between the springs.
Won't any kind of wet lubricant attract dust and grit?
We used a product from Tractor Supply called EZ Slide. It's a dry graphite coating.
It makes sense that the fuel oil would attract crud, but I haven't experienced it to be a problem. However, I don't drive on lots of dirt/gravel roads or many sandy beaches either.
I periodically oil my undercarriage (2,3,4 times a year-depending on weather and use), and from my experience, the rust prevention, suspension lubricantion and overall reduction of squeaks are enough reasons for me to continue the oil applications on my Slicks bottomside.
Astronaut, how long does that EZ-Slide stay on the leaves?
It seems that it would be kinda tuff to apply once your springs are installed under
your Slick...
In your photo, I can see pitting where the OE anti-squeak discs were located/installed at the leaf ends. [ B8A-5586-A .. Not sure about durability, it's held up really well over the 50 feet it's been pushed around the shop so far... buttons are still in place too! This is on a show truck so it won't be driven enough for the graphite coating to wear out.
