I am experiencing same problem. Dealer said the hard shifting is due to a boost in hyd. pressure to insure that bands etc are well lubed and cooled. I had it de-coded and will have a friend replace the pump and torque converter.
Good luck!
Have no freinds that can do the work. Dealer wants $500 to open it up and tell me whats wrong. I`m in the wrong business.!!! They say its a six hour R&R, many if you use only one hand. Thanks for the input. Bill

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. HERE`S THE LATEST. THE CODE IS P1728, AND THE DEALER WANTS $2.500.00 FOR A REBUILD. I THINK THAT`S REAL HIGH. I`M LOOKING SOMEWHERE ELSE
Check your shift solenoids. I had the same problems which led to a complete replacement of the trans. under warranty thank god...It died at 34K and was replaced, haven't had any issues sense. (knock on wood!!!)
I would definitely start by replacing the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) on the rear differental. It is a simple 10 min job( search this form for instructions). My '99 was doing the same thing and that was all it took to fix it. Will save you about $2,470.00 if that is all that is wrong. Does the speedometer not work some of the time? That's also a sign that the VSS is going out. Hope this helps and most of all saves you lots of MONEY!

I wouldn't recommend an additive, if you are using an approved oil you don't need one. I use the Rotella Synthetic personally, but regular Rotella or Delo 15w40 are very popular.
