Transmission slipping in 1st (kind of)

2001 Excursion V10 with E4OD. Transmission is around 4 years

old with 40-50K on it.

Here's my timeline of problems.
part 1
Day 1. Went to dive and it slipped and caught taking off.
Never felt that before. I drove it about 7 miles, no
problem, when coming to a stop it stuttered a little. Checked
fluid it was OK. Added some SeaFoam. Seemed worse and thought
I was outta luck.

Day 2. I dropped the pan and found the normal metal around
magnet plus a few metal shavings(not brass). Not many. I
took it to a tranny guy and he said something inside has
failed but he wasn't sure what. UGH. I changed filter, used
same fluid as it looked ok, put it back together and added
Lucas treatment. It moves ok, still slipping around 15% of
the time on takeoff. After moving it runs/shifts great.

part 2

Day 3. Fluid was a little low added more Lucas by
recommendation. Also went to autoparts store and had them
check for any codes that might have been stored. They told
me my gas cap was loose. Drove it some more around town. If I
come to a complete stop, and take off it is fine every time.
Also manually through the gears is fine every time. Now the
only time it slips is if I am almost at a complete stop,
maybe 2-4 MPH and then try and accelerate it will slip or
backing up and putting into D it will take awhile to get into
gear

Day4. Today. Even Better. Will still slip when accelerating
from a very slow speed, but when in reverse and going to D it
goes in gear right away
Any deas are greatly appreciated and sorry for writing a book
Thanks

Hit the OD off button and see if it slips. If it doesn't then the OD one-way is slipping. Cancelling overdrive applies the coast clutch which helps transfer the torque meant for the one-way.

I had the same issues last year after putting it in reverse it took some time for it to go into drive. The problem was the screws on the end of steering column needed tighten, no more issue. Do you have a lot of play in your gear shifter?

This is what I got,
I drove with OD on and off, it slipped once each but I really had to make it do it. Under normal around town driving it doesn't. Also I pull a trailer full of musical gear a lot. I hooked up trailer and drove around town and on highway with zero issues. No Slip.

Also as far as the 2 screws, I have had to tighten them a few times, this is definitely a different problem

thanks for the advice

Just a correction, you have a 4r100 not a E4od..

It's a 4R100. 1998 was the last year for the E4OD.

I'd be really surprised if you had found brass. There is no brass inside the transmission.

Auto parts stores can only read the codes the turn on the Check Engine light. Most transmission codes do not turn on this light and they can't read these codes.

Today I took it to a mechanic and no codes were found for the transmission. Only one for my airbag. They used a Snap On Solus Pro

I had the tranny flushed today, and they said the transfer case was to full and most likley my tranny is leaking into the case, could this be why it is acting like this, and would it act like this even f the dipstick reads full

thanks
