Gas put in 6.4 Diesel

I screwed up, I know it

Saw green pump nozzle and pumping than realized it was gas!!! 14 gals

So I knew not to start truck, i turn the ignition for 3 seconds so I could put the truck in neutral to push it out of the way WAS THIS A MISTAKE, DID I DO DAMAGE ????

Got the truck to the ford dealer got my estimate of the 800 dollar fix to drop the tank flush the lines ect. They then called me back to tell me the sending unit seals or rings, screens were swollen from gas and had to be replaced.

I screwed up but did turning the key for three seconds cause this sending unit to its grave?

How did they get the truck where the tow dropped it to the garage bay, i still am going to ask this question.

I screwed up, my fault did my three second key turn cause more damage??

Thanks david

I would say no, why the sending unit seals were bad/swollen, you got me. I would have drained the tank, dropped it to get the remaining fuel out and filled it back up. Personally see no need to flush the lines if it never ran, but that's just my two cents worth. I probably would have taken the lower filter off and drained that also but I would have bet there was no gas in that either.

You have to flush the lines because turning on the key pushes the fuel up to the engine mounted fuel filter (final pressure regulator here). But it would not have gone further... I would also be concerned on how they got it into the shop. Likely they drove it in... With what you said, i highly doubt *you* did any damage... Now them driving it in, may be a different story.

I think they are trying to make a few extra bucks. Be sure you get the old parts back. You paid for them.

Here where I live there are several gas stations that have the green/black gas pump handles reversed also. And only on the pumps that actually have diesel at them. You have to be careful as I have almost done the exact same thing. Hope things work out.

This subject has come up often. If you turned the key on for only 3 seconds there is no way you got gas to the engine. The fuel line would have been full of diesel so the gas wouldn't go any where unless you started the truck and moved the diesel out of the way. Besides, the pickup is at the bottom of the tank so it would also have to get through however much diesel was already in the tank. You can search the forum for more info. There are a number of posters who claim to have gotten gas completely integrated into the diesel and driven miles who drained flushed and refilled and drove on. Good luck.
