I just bought a 1996 Ford F250 crew cab 7.5. I was wondering if the timing is adjustable? It doesn't have maf. I loosened the hold down on the distributor and it didn't budge? Trying to get the most out of this motor. Thanks
It is adjustable, but there are a few things you need to look at first.
First try loosening the hold down bolt a little more. The distributor should turn.
Next take some steel wool or a less aggressive wire wheel to the timing marks on your balancer so you can see the marks well. It will also help you to mark the lines from 10-15 with a fine tipped paint marker. I marked my 13* mark with a red marker and the rest with white.
When you are ready to adjust timing, unplug the spout connector. Seen on a 302 in this link but is also inside the driver fender on yours as well.
Start it up and set your base timing. Base timing is initially set at 10* BTC from stock. Start with 12* BTC and see if it works for you before going any more advanced. If you go higher, you need to wary of pinging and detonation, so consider yourself warned.
Tighten down the clamp bolt again and recheck your timing as the dist. can move when you tighten it up.
