Towing a fifth wheel with 96 F350 460

Looking at fifth wheel campers and am interested in real world experiences of what the truck can realistically handle (trailer weight and pin weight). Truck currently hauls a 7000lb bumper pull with no problems but I understand a fifth wheel is a different animal.

The truck is a 96 F350 dually crew 4x4 with a 460 and a built E4OD. It is one of the aftermarket conversions that started life as a SRW and was converted to a dually.

Don't have the owners manual with me but by memory I think it says 10K trailer limit.

Not looking to travel across country or full time but will likely travel 200 -300 miles at a time.

Appreciate your perspective and the benefit of your experience.

Bumper pull or 5th wheel makes not difference in how the tuck can tow it.

The truck CARRIES the weight better and turning is different, that is it.

A 7k bumper pull tows just as hard as a 7k 5th wheel.

My biggest confer is how they made the rear a dually? Spacers(bad idea) or dual wheel axle(good idea)

The conversion was done with a dually rear axle. It was done by one of the aftermarket companies (centurion or something similar) and sold new at the dealer that way.

That is a FIRST. Centurion is KNOWN for putting bolt on adapters and then Butcher the bed sides putting on generic fenders

I'm trying the same

I have a 1994 f350 dually 2wd 4dr 9ft flatbed. Dual gas tank. I'm trying to go into hauling / towing business. Would my truck be good for it. Also if I wanted to pull / tow more than max weight would I just need to add more leaf springs.

Without knowing the condition and drivetrain of the truck, it's hard to give a correct answer to that question.

Some general things to note though:

To haul/tow as a business, you want to make sure you go about it legally. DOT and MC numbers, proper insurance, and setting up an LLC or Corporation are all good ideas, and necessary in most cases. Otherwise, you're setting yourself up for fines or to be held personally liable for any damage to customers' items.

There's a LOT of people that haul, tow, and transport illegally. People that choose to do that are taking a HUGE chance on fines, equipment confiscation, lawsuits, and a whole lot of other things that'll result in bad times.
