4R100 Fluid, Opinions?

What is everyone running in their transmission?

I seen in another thread, Mark K. said everyone can benefit from running Mercon V...

Options:
Valvoline Max Life Dex/Merc $4.25/qt

Valvoline Dex/Merc $4.25/qt

Valvoline Mercon V $6/qt

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF $10/qt

Royal Purple Max ATF $15/qt

No Dex/Merc! That is not licensed by Ford so it is not tested and proven to have the correct attributes.

Mercon V is licensed by Ford so it is tested and proven to have the correct attributes. Can't go wrong with that.

Or any fancy synthetic that floats your boat. I don't think they provide any significant additional benefit, but to each his own. Mobil 1 and Schaeffers seem to be common choices.

The Dex/Merc says it meet BOTH specs...
"Helps provide smooth shift performance where Dexron-III or a Mercon fluid is specified"
"Recommended for use in GM, Ford, Mazda, Toyota, and other import vehicles"

I'm leaning toward the Valvoline Mercon V, but was somewhat interested in the Max Life since its recommended over 75K miles.

The Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Shaffers is a bit pricey...

Before Ford discontinued MERCON in order for a manufacturer to state that it was a MERCON fluid they had to submit samples for testing to Ford. We ran that fluid through a battery of tests to prove that it met the specs. Ford no longer licenses MERCON fluid, so they are not testing it. Maybe it does meet the specs. Only the fluid manufacturer knows for certain. Before I knew that Ford was checking. They still are for MERCON V.

Walmart used to have a house brand Mercon V. Not sure if they still do, but it was a good place to find it in gallon jugs of just Mercon.

I run Castrol Transmax Mercon V in mine. I've been running it for the last two or three flushes and my HD4R100 loves it.

Your probably thinking of Super Tech...

Super Tech Mercon V $4.27/qt

Normally I wouldn't consider running it, but with Ford's stamp of approval, makes ya think twice. $1.72/qt cheaper than Valvoline, not a ton but worth noting.

Valvoline max life which I believe is synthetic, been using it for around 180,000 to 200,000 miles now, good stuff. With 30,000 change intervals that is.
