Suddenly my 2006 6.0 is real slow starting. HPOP? Standpipes? What are the dummy plugs? What and where is the STC fitting. I have a Scangauge 11 on here will that give me an idea of what is going wrong? This is my daily driver work truck , need to get on this asap.Thank you

First step to check for a HPO leak, watch ICP and IPR on start. Flip the SGII on before cranking(turning over before it starts) and note ICP and IPR while it's cranking and after it starts. Check both cold (first thing in the morning) and after it's up to normal temp.
Normal ICP is 580-640ish, ICP should be mid 20's running and maybe 40's or more cranking. (They may jump around a bit and it goes pretty fast, try to remember highest numbers cranking and let it settle a bit before taking idle numbers)

Several things can cause a long crank before starting. It's fine to check HPO system first but post numbers above and we'll try n help with other possibilities if they are ok .

Need to be a little more specific and also two sets of numbers, hot and cold. As the oil gets hotter it will thin out and numbers will change.
ICP- Injector Control Pressure- is a sensor reading the pressure.
IPR- Injector Pressure Regulator- is a valve commanded to close by the PCM raising the pressure.

are you having problems starting it when the engine is cold or when its hot? I would bet Dummy plugs or possibly STC fitting. They are the most common on that year. If you havent done those I would do both.

Good luck

As Firedaniel pointed out it is important to know if the truck is cold when it has a hard time starting. What are the FICM volts at KOEO, cranking, idling and WOT? The FICM main power should be greater than 45 volts at all times, if it drops below 45 your FICM is in need of some lovin from Ed at FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair . FICM problems rear their ugly head on cold start-ups and a leaking HPO systems on hot starts ( engine up to operating temp )

Its slow starting when cold. It had always started rather quickly when cold. Lately its taking quite a few more turns. Do my ICP,IPR numbers look good. Is there a test I can do to check dummy plugs, STC fitting or standpipes. I do not really understand the function of these parts. Ive seen a video of standpipe replacement so Im not completely ignorant to that. The other parts though not so much. Thank you very much for your help........Gotta go to work now.

The IPR% on a hot idling engine ( 185*- 190* ) will point to a HPO leak, the IPR% on a healthy HPO system will be around 22-24% at idle, higher numbers indicate a HPO leak.

Make sure and get these numbers as well.

Hard start cold is usually ficm but the guys are right you really need to record all the numbers so you don't throw parts at it. :-)

I have had some low FICM voltage numbers. There intermittent mostly on the colder mornings. I am waiting for a new FICM from Ed. It should be here today. The reason I have become so concerned is it seem to be slow starting even when the FICM numbers are good.
I will take another very close look at everything when I get the new FICM installed. This truck has nearly 140,000 miles. What should I do to this thing for preventative measures? Im thinking standpipes, dummy plugs and STC fitting, anything else?
Thanks for all your help in advance!!!

IPR % of 80+% at anytime other than WOT is never good.

Cold start long crank with high % points to dummy plugs.

If it's unknown if the STC has been updated now would be a good time.

Standpipes aren't absolutely needed, but nice insurance.

Well I put the new FICM in . Thanks Ed at FICMrepair. Great product. I went with the Atlas 40 tune and what a difference! Unfortunately there is still a slow start issue in the morning when cold. IPR 84.7%.....ICP 110... In the past in the morning when cold is when it started the fastest..I haven't timed but it probably cranks for 4 or 5 seconds before it cranks....Thanks
