Before I get carried away I thought to check with the experts! 77 300 6 with a Clifford water heated intake and Edlebrock 600. I was going down a short hill using engine compression and when I got to the bottom the truck started idling very rough. Had to hold the throttle open to keep it running. Was running fine until then. Not able to find any vacuum leaks - only have the PCV , brake booster and vacuum advance hooked up - and the base bolts are tight. I can back the air/fuel screw out to keep it running but still very rough. All the standard ignition parts look good.
From the way it feels I am thinking there is dirt in the floats but wanted to check if there is any other possibilities with this carb. Maybe a backfire through the carb blew something out??
Not like a Holley no power valve to blow out , may have some crap in the needle and seat the passage from the inlet to the seats collects crud and there are small screens on the seats they also do there job and gather crud . When was the last rebuild ?
Thanks hotstuff! Did not think there was anything to blow out but this is my first edlebrock so figured it was best to check!
Carb is about 4 years old and has not been rebuilt. Looks like I will be at least taking the top off so might as well freshen things up. Working on rebuilding a holley 4160 right now that I was going to throw on to see how it would do on the 300 but was taking my time. Guess I am going to have to move a touch faster on it!
edelbrock is a easy rebuild ,take your time ,clean, blow out passages , make sure the float setting are correct . If you have questions the board will help . Good luck
