manual sunroof conversion?

Has anyone converted their power sunroof to a manual sunroof, or even sealed theirs up completely? Mine is broken and leaking, and the stealership wants too much to fix it. I've looked at manual kits, as well as sealing it up completely since I never use it. Has anyone else tried either of these options?

Depending on what is broken on yours, would probably be easier and cheaper to fix it yourself. The most common failure are the small parts that keep it moving in the slide. You can get parts at sunroofdr.com. Probably about $110 for the slide parts. They also provide good instruction for the repair. The biggest part of the repair job is dropping the headliner and associated parts. If you decide to go this way, I can provide some more detail.

I've been giving the repair kit a lot of thought, but I'm never home long enough to fix it myself. Only home for a total of 4 days a month and I'm always trying to catch up in things that didn't get fixed from the last time I was home. I've never used it anyway, so blocking it off wouldn't bother me, just not sure what the most effective way to do that would be.

Let me know what you figure out. I am planning on repainting my truck by this fall and was thinking about tearing the guts out of the sunroof and getting a non sunroof headliner and welding in a piece of sheet metal. The only thing that has broken on my truck after the better part of 190k supercharged ruff riding miles are the options. Next truck im getting is going to be an XL.

I think I'm just gonna seal it shut with some silicon and be done with it. It's a King Ranch and I'm tired of my Castano leather being soaked after a hard rain. I don't have time to mess with it, so I'm sealing it. It's the only persistent problem I've had with it.

Bought 3 tubes of Permatex black silicon sealant and ran a thick bead around the seal. Used my index finger to spread it out and let it cure. So far it's holding up ok. 45 minutes and a black finger later, it's sealed and I don't hear any wind through it anymore, and I'm hoping it doesn't leak anymore. I'll find out when it rains again.
