Are OEM Windshields still available?

I need a replacement windshield for my 82.

I've read about the crappy aftermarket windshields (such as SafeLite uses).
Where can I get an OEM windshield - or at least a quality replacement?
I'm doing the install myself - just need to find the glass.

I've been searching via Google and haven't come up with anything yet.

I had a replacement windshield put in an 82 that was a HUGE improvement over the original. However, they used one for a later truck and the VIN plate wasn't visible, and that became a problem when I sold it. Don't let them use the wrong glass.

I've been reading about the later model windshields being a replacement for the earlier models but with the VIN plate obscured. I keep an eye out for that.

I mentioned Safelite having inferior glass (a statement based on postings from others) but the Carlite website says Safelite uses their glass - so I guess they have quality glass (maybe you have to ask for it).

I was planning to do the install myself but I can't find a source I can trust to buy the glass from (no one locally sells retail and internet shipping of glass is risky) - so maybe I'll go back to Plan A and have someone come out and install for me.

The old glass is out and I'm making repairs to the rusted areas now.

Are there a bunch of Ford dealers in the Orlando area? I would think there's some sitting back in the parts dept. (You didn't mention price)

If you're capable and can find one, you can pull one at a pick-n-pull.

Check out Pilkington Glass Pilkington Automotive they don't sell direct, but the glass they supply to shops is OEM equivalent and each piece is placed on a jig and optically inspected for distortion before shipping. They should be able to direct you to a retailer. ~Bill

Most Ford dealers did not carry glass in stock because it could be obtained...usually...within 24 hours or less.

AWESOME information NumberDummy. Thanks for the part numbers! I need a replacement windshield too. Now I know exactly what to ask for.

In fact, I need to replace both of the wing windows, and both doors. Can you supply the part numbers for these as well?

I would prefer to have the VIN visible - but I'll take what I can get.

There are no old trucks left in the salvage yards near me (and there are quite a few yards on this side of town). After the yard pulls whatever parts they want, and a decade or so passes, the old cars/trucks are crushed. Probably due to limited yard space and environmental regulations.

I've used Choice Autoglass in NY. Don't know if these are the same affiliate. They came out to the house and installed a shaded one in my 87 for $168

Can one person remove a windshield at the junk yard by himself?

Only $22 at my local yard... but never worked with glass before.

You could but WHY. 30+ years of rock chips and road debris. Then YOU have to install it and hope it doesnt leak.

Just spend the $250 and have a NEW glass installed. It is guaranteed NOT to leak, if they screw anything up, THEY have to fix it and best of all.... You will be amazed what NEW windshield is like. PERFECTLY clear.

I have a NEW windshield installed in my trucks almost as soon as I buy them
