73-mid year 77 (easily identified by the lack of the license plate top slot) I am pretty sure it will bolt on, but I remember there maybe being a clearance issues on the outer edge where is wraps around the fender. I think it might touch the grill shell?

A late year 77.5 to 79 (with slit) from any F150 F250 F350 will bolt right on, no problem.

Do you mean that there is no indentation for a front license plate on the 73-mid year 77? I've been trying to figure out what year front bumper and bed that I put on my truck. I believe they're both from either a 76 or 73, but the guy who I bought them from didn't know for sure.

Anyway, if my bumper is from either a 76 or 73, it seems to fit fine on my 79. However, my truck has a 3 inch body lift, so that might play into things as well.

As far as I know, the 73-77 does not have a cut in the bumper right where the license plate sets, the 77.5 to 79 does.

Yes with a 3" body lift you would have no clearance issues, unless you tried to raise your bumpers to get rid of the body lift gap.

This is only as I see things and and I have seen a early year 73-77 bumper on a later model 79 truck, it did not look right or fit well IMO.

Well, I just checked mine and there's no cut in it. I guess mine is almost certainly a 73-77 bumper then.

I actually did have clearance issues when trying to install the bumper without raising it, the outside edges hit on that front part of the fender where it bulges forward a bit. I raised it about 3 inches and it's fine, but I need to figure out a better way so that it's more secure.

I think it looks okay, not great, but not terrible. To the OP, I think the answer is that if you have a 73-77 bumper and don't want to spend the money on a later bumper, it'll do the job

I was mostly wondering if the bolt holes lined up. I have seen some aftermarket retro bumpers on craigslist, and am wondering what years i can consider.
If 77.5-79 is all that will line up, it is good to know

The 73 to 79 bumper mount holes will line up, its a fender clearance issue on the older bumper on a new truck, I believe.

I have a 77.5 (oct 77) married xfer case ect...and I have a 79 bumper that fits great.

Ok, so if it curves around, it will be an issue.
The bumpers i am looking for are offroad, so most dont follow the fender line. I am looking for a warn winch bumper too. But i am cheap and patient, lol

1977.5 only refers to F250 4WD's! Before serial number Y20,001 is a High Boy, from serial number Y20,001 is not a High Boy.

Serial number Y20,001 occurred in February 1977, which was the middle (1977.5) of the 1977 model run that began in September 1976 and ended in August 1977.

There's no clearance problem with any of these bumpers.

C4TZ-17757-C Painted & C4TZ-17757-D Chrome .. Front Bumpers-without horizontal bumper pads.

1964/77 F100/350, 1978 F100/350 before serial number AG0,001.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
D3TZ-17757-A .. Chrome Front Bumper with Horizontal Bumper Pads. This is the same as C4TZ-17757-D except it has holes punched out for the tabs of the R/L vinyl bumper pads to fit into.

1973/77 F100/350 Ranger XLT, 1978 F100/350 Ranger XLT & Lariat before serial number AG0,001.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D8TZ-17757-A Chrome & D8TZ-17757-B Chrome w/Horizontal Bumper Pads & D8TZ-17757-C Painted Low Gloss Black .. Front Bumpers.

1978 F100/350 from serial number AG0,001 & 1979 F100/350 / 1978/79 Bronco.
