New guy question-be kind.

I am a new owner of a 1950 F-1 with a 1953 (1954) flathead 8. I want to do my first oil change and have read the shop manual and lots of internet stuff. I have the right filter, oil and stuff. But, where in the heck do I put the oil in after I take the old out? Be kind, new blood is good for the class.

Look on top of the engine at the intake manifold. There's a black metal tube coming up at an angle with a big black cap on top of it that should say "FRONT" stamped in it. Just grab hold of it and pull straight up. That's where it goes. No such thing as a stupid question around here, and we don't flame people either. Welcome. It will be on the left side of the engine.

Don't ask me, mine is a much more modern V8. But welcome to the forum and if you haven't already been told, pictures are needed!

yep. Good that you ask now before you put it in the radiator.

Here's a shot of the oil filler cap and tube, sticking up pretty much in the center of the pic. (and not the air cleaner, which may have oil in it, too.)

Welcome aboard. There are plenty of fine people here to help you ( I tend to be sarcastic though- in a brotherly sort of way)

Welcome! When you go to change the filter, make sure the parts store gave you the correct filter element. More often than not when I go to buy one of these I get handed the wrong one since the auto parts store folks are not familiar with the older engines. The correct element will have two holes in the center that fit tight over the post in your filter canister. The wrong element will have larger holes that don't fit tight. Also, an oil suction gun helps pull all the old oil out of the canister during the oil change. Don't over tighten the canister lid or it will warp. Make sure to replace the gasket in the lid.

Hey Tampa Bay,
Welcome Aboard! Good to see another '50 owner on here!
The easiest way to post pics is to join up. I think the cost is $20/yr & you get rid of almost all of the annoying pop-up ads & you get a little paperclip icon that you click & you can post directly from your hard drive (Nice).

Look forward to seeing those pics of your '50.

Could we see some pictures? Here is how.

But I got ta say becoming a supporter is the fastest and easiest way to post pics right from
your whatever pad/cell thing or home computer.
Few of us look in the users Gallery or album as you can see by your recent visitors.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Here's a tutorial Bob put together: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-pictures.html Bob's link is not working. Can someone in the know tell me why?

How to upload pictures to the FTE Forums. - YouTube. Thanks Sam Rusty_Old_F250. Best we can find is that this video was done by Gundown64

Welcome to FTE. Just a reminder to dispose of your used oil responsibly. Many parts places will take up to 5 gallons no charge.

Enjoy your ride!
