If you are under the valve covers, re-torque the rockers and the injector hold downs.
I believe it is 12ft lbs for the rockers and 20in lbs for the injectors.

Okay, orings for injectors from Clay on the way. Will retorque rockers and injector hold downs using those numbers, will also look at UVCH and make sure all is tight/do 50 cent mod and install glow plugs. I will update when this is done and see if it fixes HPOP reservoir slow drain down.

(it's 120 inch pounds, not 20 BTW)

Rocker arm bolts are 20 ft/lbs and injector hold down bolts are 120 INCH/lbs.

Thanks for the correction guys. Its been about 4 yrs since I've done mine.

Icicle... Getting those things done will help performance but I don't see it helping the drain back from the HPOP any.

Since the check valve is so uncommonly the problem, should I really be starting there?
While I was working on the truck, go ahead and change the o-ring and gasket for the HPOP...Just a few $$$.. what I was talking about does rarely go bad, but that was my problem

Update, and advice seeking:

My fuel bowl was disgusting, especially on bottom which you cannot see in pic. Soaked the bottom in carb cleaner and rinsed out with the fuel I drained from it. Normal?

Second, The top fuel line drivers side, which I believe is the return line snapped off almost immediately with zero pressure, right inside where it threads into the fuel bowl, how do I fix this, I've never in my years with cars messed with hard lines like that needing repair.

Third. My draining HPOP seems to only be draining to the point in the picture, should I assume that is the gasket that is leaking and just replace that one? I'm all ears.

Final Update: All put back together, new batteries make a huge difference, Glow plugs are definitely working, truck is quieter with proper torque on Rockers and injectors, we'll see in a few days if my HPOP res. is still full, Torque Pro running on my wifes Old Droid whos new purpose is Torque Pro in its own MOtorola car dock on the dash, everything is looking good.

Thanks for all the help, as always. 11 years on this site, I've made so many friends, and now I'm making Diesel friends!

Why would this affect the HPOP levels? It's probably a worn LPOP, or it could be the check valve. Also, simply check your overall crankcase oil level. But my bet is on the LPOP. Not an expensive fix (a new Melling LPOP is like $85 or something), but time consuming.

For sure, this is why your engine was dying. The oil in your HPOP lines let the injectors fire and start up, but then there is a big air bubble of no oil coming from the HPOP, but the HPOP is refilling about the time the engine dies. So, then when you crank some more (longer crank), the pressure builds up for the injectors and it fires up.

Theory alert! What if bad injector O-rings siphon the oil down into the cylinder or fuel when the truck sits - draining the HPOP reservoir?

Because oil can run down past the o-rings https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...eshooting.html (credit to Pikachu)

Correct on both of these, but my first attack was the gasket between reservoir and pump (see pics above), it's cheap and easy, check valves are rarely an issue, and lpop is more work.

Also, simply check your overall crankcase oil level. But my bet is on the LPOP. .
Oil level is perfect beautiful honey colored T6 with about 700 miles on it.

It's put back together, drove yesterday, to have a bath and test out my work, verify nothing is leaking, sitting now to see if my HPOP stays full while it sleeps and recovers from surgery in the garage!
