2011 4.6ltr with CV IFS in 1969 F100, Engine height discussion

Hi all, I have a 2011 4.6ltr V8 and CV IFS that Im swapping into my 69 F100. With the engine in its original mount holes in the CV IFS, it sits SUPER low in the chassis and doesnt line up with the rad/rad opening. Im wondering what others have done with this particular issue

Original mount holes;

I have added a 4" spacer to these (motor mount not done...haha just mocked up ) and this lines up the nicest in my opinion

By raising the engine 4" and retaining the stock CV tranny X-mbr bolted to the underside of the top frame rail, nets an angle of 4 degrees to the rear

I havent cut any hoses yet but you can see how well everything lines up

I retained the stock CV lower rad support

Anyways enough rambling. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks !

I am thinkin' all will be fine after you get your rear end in at the correct pinion angle to match the tranny. You raised the engine/tranny UP to approx old ones were. So I am assuming all will be well with the firewall and floor. And lowering the rear suspension effectively raises the rear end up closer to the height of the tranny. My .02.

If it was front wheel drive the radiator would not line up square with the motor either.

Electric fans is all the would be needed if, I understand your post correctly.
2x with Jeff post.

Also I remember there was somebody else that put in a C/V 4.6L quite a few months back. I can't remember who. I also can't remember what he did on engine heighth. I remember he fitted the C/V cluster behind the Bump dash bezel. Fitted surprisingly easy. If I remember right he did it for looks and because some of the power, controls, wiring etc for the C/V PCM goes through the cluster. If that's a clue to find his build.

Skinnypedal did something similar as well iirc.

Cant run the truck radiator with electric fan, and custom hoses? If it were mine Id like to have the motor low.

The transmission looks awfully high. Have you checked cab fitment?

I would keep the engine low to keep your center of gravity low ... better handling

You're going to come close to the trans tunnel being that high.... Not to mention, the CVIFS places the engine way forward of the firewall. I just built mounts to move mine (32V 4.6L) rearward 3 inches.

I would leave the engine low, But I also under stand that by raising the engine it makes the exhaust and other items fit a tad better.

If it was me I would be setting the engine low in the chassis and moving it rear ward as much as possible. and using electric fans to handle the cooling job

Thanks for all the great info ! I completely agree that until the cab gets here there is not alot more I can do, seeing as I dont know where Im actually able to fit the engine/tranny. I understand the center of gravity being higher means Ill lose some maneuverability however I feel the truck will still drive WAY better than the original and it clears all my exhaust and fills the engine bay ( yes, aesthetics ....haha) Id be very interested in pictures of the finished 4.6 in that engine bay at stock height or even Saturn5 engine thats been moved rear ward 3". Thanks again guys and Ill be sure to update my progress. Also, if anyone is needing a C4 tranny or a CV IFS give me a PM !

Pass side

Driver's side. I will have to relocate the oil filter, but I planned on that anyway.

You can see how much space opens up front now.

Shifter location with a T45.

Engine is about 1 1/4" off the firewall. I also needed to rework the crossmember under the firewall to clear the bellhousing.

Saturn5, that looks real good !! Seems simple enough to do as well. Are you going with a remote filter under the inner fender ? I have stopped any more fab on this till my cab comes back next week. Then I will know ! haha
