If your local Advanced has it in-store, don't just buy it for cash there. They always have a 20% (sometimes even 30%) online discount code active. Get on retailmenot and get the code, then order it for in-store pickup (no shipping charge) with the discount code. Comes out to $11-12 a gallon.
Thanks! That's awesome, I didn't even think of that. I looked on there website and they had the code on there for 20% off. It even said they wouldn't ship it because of the hazardous material deal but I could pick it up a t the store.
So, I finally got around to working on the radiator tonight, I started by putting the radiator under vacuum. I tried alumaweld first, and it did not work. I think it was not fluid enough to reach the problem spot. I had some time, and some jb weld, so I mixed it up and used some air pressure to blow it into the voids where the alumaweld would not flow. The radiator was still under vacuum, so I am hoping that it will be sucked into the leaks before it cures. I left it under vacuum until it cures tomorrow, but I probably won't be back to it until Friday. I will pressure test it and report results. I took videos, but I don't have the energy to post them right now. I'm off to bed.
I have bought a radiator from Advance Auto and 4 gallons of Fleet charge and 4 gallons of distilled water. So if all goes well I will have big red back on the road tomorrow. So do I need to use a coolant flush or is just draining it and running water through it good enough?
Flushing certainly can't hurt, but at the very least make sure that you pull out the block plugs and drain the block entirely. Search "block drain plugs" for the locations. There are two one above the starter and one by the oil cooler. They are brass plugs with hex heads.
Thanks, I was just worried about putting the flush in the new radiator. I guess I should go ahead and do it anyway. I was wondering where those drain plugs were, thanks for the tip!
thanks 119er thats nice to know cause that is the one that i purchased. but on a bad note, I was pulling the radiator out yesterday and it got wedged a little so i decided to full force jerk it out. well i my finger snapped. so i'm out of action for a while. xrays show it is broken.
