1997 f250 7.3 upgrades

so guys, im new here and i bought a 1997 f250 7.3l powerstroke with 167k on the clock...it has a k&n cold air intake from the PO, i need some help with what i should do to it, i was thinking start off with a 3 in downpipe-5 in straight. then get stage 2 injectors and d66 turbo, some tuner, tires, rims and a lift, paint job and call it a day

Welcome! A D66 might have a had time keeping up with stage II's. You might want to consider a s366 but I'll let the rest of the guys correct me if needed.

Glenn is right on the D66. What turbo you choose depends on how you plan to use the truck: towing, zipping around town, etc.

You will also need gauges, electric fuel, and an HPOP for those stage 2s.

BUT THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO DO IS DROP THE K&N LIKE A SACK OF POTATOES!

welcome to FTE.
as the others said, first off get rid of that K&N piece of garbage before it does any more damage to your engine.
second step is to get a set of gauges in the cab before you do anything else. this way you will know what the engine is doing, and what the improvements are doing.

boost and pyrometer are the basics. any others are owner choice.
as for the intake, most of us use the 6637 filter, or the complete kit from RiffRaff diesel
the kit: Riffraff Diesel 6637 Filter Kit - Riffraff Diesel Performance
replacement filter: 6637 Replacement Filter - Riffraff Diesel Performance

okay, so next question is what is the judgement on the .10 over factory overhaul kit from riff raff? is there a big power difference? will i need any more things than just the overhaul kit. noted that would be after the new filter, exhaust, gauges...

No power gain in an overhaul kit... You only need an overhaul kit when very bad things happen.

6637 is the most popular intake filter used, but use an Amsoil filter in my trucks.

If you have an auto transmission your third gauge should be trans temp. Also, glowshift gauges are not too reliable, but they are cheap so I understand if you still want them.

Also, if you have an auto transmission get ready for an expensive rebuild if you go with stage 2 injectors and all the supporting mods (400+ HP). Even stage 1 injectors push the stock auto too hard.

I just hooked up my 6637 to my K+N intake, and that was that.

Definatly get the filters from Clay at RiffRaff as they are cheaper. At least last I checked they were. And if I recall, from time to time, they have deals if you buy in quantity.

I hope it has a good warranty...

I would recommend getting the 6673 intake, 3" DP, and driving it for a while to work out any bugs.

Get it 100% before going further than that.

Then I would work on supporting mods like the HPOP, Additional tranny coolers, intercoolers, chip.
