Factory wheel specs
Hey everyone,
I'm new here so please bare with me if I make a mistake or two. I'm purchasing new rims and tires for my '77 Ranger F250. Is this a "highboy"? I already have BFG MT 35s on there now but they are worn out. I am going to replace them with the 35x12.5R16 Dick Cepeck Mud Countrys. Now the rims I have are 16.5s so needless to say they HAVE to go. So here is my question... What size rims originally came on this truck (diameter, BORE SIZE PLEASE lol, backspacing etc...) and what SIZE rims would you recommend? So far I know I'm going 16x8 but i would like them to stick out a little past the body for look and to ensure they won't rub with the aggressive sidewalls. What backspacing would i need to get that? or is it offset that I am meaning to say?

Is this a "highboy"?
Can't say for sure from your photo but some simple ways to tell if your truck is a highboy:
a) frame cross member below the front bumper
b) fuel tank located behind the seat
c) divorced transfer case ie short drive-shaft between transmission and transfer case
Early 1977 F250 4x4s were highboys and mid-year they switched to the low-boy style frame and suspension. 1977 body used same grill etc. except for no fuel tank behind seat on low-boys and of course, they sat much lower...
If you want a stock style 16" rim, you can still use new econoline rims which fit perfect but don't have lugs for the dog dish hub caps. Not really a deal breaker as only full-time highboy 4x4s had the option of hubcaps on all four corners back in the day.
