Factory wheel specs

Hey everyone,

I'm new here so please bare with me if I make a mistake or two. I'm purchasing new rims and tires for my '77 Ranger F250. Is this a "highboy"? I already have BFG MT 35s on there now but they are worn out. I am going to replace them with the 35x12.5R16 Dick Cepeck Mud Countrys. Now the rims I have are 16.5s so needless to say they HAVE to go. So here is my question... What size rims originally came on this truck (diameter, BORE SIZE PLEASE lol, backspacing etc...) and what SIZE rims would you recommend? So far I know I'm going 16x8 but i would like them to stick out a little past the body for look and to ensure they won't rub with the aggressive sidewalls. What backspacing would i need to get that? or is it offset that I am meaning to say?

Yeah a lot would... I'm not talking about what the guys are doing with those new fancy trucks, just like a half inch or so.

My 16.5x9.25 were about flush.

The 16.5x12s that i have now, stick out about an inch.

Ok, let me simplify this... Do i need 8x6.5 bolt pattern with a bore of 5.150 on a stock 1977 F250?

I was wrong, my other rims are 16.5x8.25 and the backspace is 5". You are correct on the center bore. Bolt pattern is 8x6.5

My tires are 35x12.5x16.5

Is this a "highboy"?

Can't say for sure from your photo but some simple ways to tell if your truck is a highboy:

a) frame cross member below the front bumper

b) fuel tank located behind the seat

c) divorced transfer case ie short drive-shaft between transmission and transfer case

Early 1977 F250 4x4s were highboys and mid-year they switched to the low-boy style frame and suspension. 1977 body used same grill etc. except for no fuel tank behind seat on low-boys and of course, they sat much lower...

If you want a stock style 16" rim, you can still use new econoline rims which fit perfect but don't have lugs for the dog dish hub caps. Not really a deal breaker as only full-time highboy 4x4s had the option of hubcaps on all four corners back in the day.

I'm pretty sure the bolt pattern is 160mm not 6.5". We're talking about an 1/8" differance. If you buy wheels with 6.5" BP they will not fit.

old school

8x6.5 is our bolt pattern,,,and you can get another pair of Bfg x 16.5 35s and stay with original rims,,I like my 40 year old rims and I also like the skinys on steelies and the old school wagon wheels

David, I have the identical rims as yours on my truck now. Mine aren't nearly as shiny mind you. What is the bore size on those?

Old School Aluminum Slotted Mag Wheels - Extreme Makeover
Hey 77HB,by bore size you mean the center opening, diameter? If you get a chance look into Hickory truck build,he went with the old school slots on his new resto.
