Cleaning under the hood

Was anyone cleaned the motor and other areas under the hood, with all the electrical stuff under there I'm a little leary of getting it to wet. I have a lot of sw desert dust and dirt under there.

I'll wipe, but not a big fan of spraying water under the hood. Esp. high pressure.

I would not worry about spraying under hood. Wires have sealed connectors. In the winter I try my best to keep most of the salt washed off, plus sand and everything else I get under there during the summer. I have sprayed off at home and with pressure at car washes, never had a problem.

I wash mine down every couple of months... all the weather pack connectors keep the water out. I just try to avoid the alternator, ECU and the big fuse/relay blocks with direct spray.

A garden hose, soap and water won't hurt anything.

My V10 ruined any desire I ever had to clean an engine. I'd like to take a hose to it but just haven't been able to pull the trigger.

Because of my V10 washing experience is why I asked about the 6.2. Water down the plug holes.

hahahaha!! Have the same hesitation!!

Thinking...I'm just going to wash it down with light water pressure. My engine compartment looks terrible with the SW winds and desert.

With all the electrical and computer stuff under the hood it's hard to pull the trigger to wash the engine compartment. Afraid of waking up the sleeping gremlins.

Go for it, just follow the prescribed advice. This is straight out of my 2012's owner's manual:

CLEANING

ENGINE

Engines are more efficient when they are clean because grease and dirt
buildup keep the engine warmer than normal. When washing:
• Take care when using a power washer to clean the engine. The
high-pressure fluid could penetrate the sealed parts and cause
damage.
• Do not spray a hot engine with cold water to avoid cracking the
engine block or other engine components.
• Spray Motorcraft Engine Shampoo and Degreaser (ZC-20) on all
parts that require cleaning and pressure rinse clean.
• Never wash or rinse the engine while it is hot or running; water in the
running engine may cause internal damage.
• Never wash or rinse any ignition coil, spark plug wire or spark plug
well, or the area in and around these locations.
• Cover the highlighted areas to prevent water damage when cleaning
the engine."
[The highlighted areas are: Battery, Air Filter Box, and Fuse panel]

I found this out of my 2000 owners manual:

Cleaning the engine
Engines are more efficient when they are clean because grease and dirt
buildup keep the engine warmer than normal. When washing:
• Take care when using a power washer to clean the engine. The high
pressure fluid could penetrate the sealed parts and cause damage.
• Do not spray with cold water to avoid cracking the engine block or
other engine components.
• Never wash or rinse the engine while it is running; water in the
running engine may cause internal damage.

Just sayin'..
