Check Your Rims For Rust Before Getting New Tires!!! (Rust Belt Guys)
Hey guys i wanted to throw this out there, two days ago i had my 04's tires transferred onto new rims for my 95 and the tire shop kept my old rims. I didn't notice until i got home and by that time they were closed. When i went back in the morning to get them i asked the guy at the front desk and he said oh yeah drive around back and we'll give them to you so after doing so my buddy who works there opened the garage door and had me look at the wheels before taking them. He did the tire transfer for me and apparently the guy at the front desk forgot to tell me that my old rims were no good anymore. When i looked at them there were several rust spots on each on the flat surface of the rims (not the lips) that were nearly rusted through. This was all 4 rims and I had the steel with the chrome face glued on rims that came on most 99-04 super duties. Also the rust was on the inside where the air is for tire if you want to think of it like that not the outside which had surface rust anyway so i didn't give it a second thought.
These guys:
Anyway they said it's common on the factory rims for fords and they don't know why but either way I would have needed all 4 new rims in a year or two anyway. Unfortunate i forgot to snap any pictures of them before leaving because i was going to be late to work. I can only imagine what the spare tire looks like on the inside because the outside is nasty.
I just wanted to give you guys running these rims still a shout out that if you get new tires have them check the rims because I would have hated to have all 4 rims go within a year or two of each other.
