Did you unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate?

Torque converter nuts... There is a cover in front of the transmission with 4 or 5 studs that stick thought the flex plate you need to rotate the engine over and unscrew the nuts.

Does it pry apart at all? As long as you have all the previously mentioned items removed it should pull right off. You might have to jack up the back end of the transmission to remove pressure and pull it straight back a few inches because 1) the torque converter studs might be binding on the flex plate and 2) Oftentimes there are guidance studs about 3 inches long driven in the back of the engine block that could cause binding.
