Yet another cruise control issue
I am a new owner of an old Excursion (2000 XLT 4WD V10), and I have a cruise control problem. I have looked through all the threads on this site covering the various things that can go wrong with the cruise controls on these beasts, and I can't find anything that addresses my specific problem.
When I got the truck, the cruise didn't work at all, and after a little research on here, I replaced the Cruise Deactivation Switch on the master cylinder (Thanks, guys!). The truck now passes the self-test diagnostic procedure, and when I set the cruise while driving, the light comes on, but the system doesn't "grab" the throttle, and the truck just coasts down to a stop (the light does go out after the speed drops by 10 mph, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to do that).
During the self-test, I get one blink after each button press, and after the "static" portion of the test, I hear a sort of click/clunk from the passenger side of the dash, but the throttle doesn't move. Is it supposed to? Is the servo bad? And if it is, would the diagonistic test report that?
I am not a mechanic, but I took the cover off of the throttle body and can see where the throttle cable attaches, as well as where (I think) the cruise control system attaches below it - it looks like it's a cable sheathed in black plastic. As far as I can tell, it's attached correctly, but because it's covered in plastic, I can't actually see where the cable connects.
Any advice at this point would be welcome, because I don't really want to go throwing parts at it.
Thanks!
