Different years who knows what they changed. Its all going to be interesting to say the least. You always want to try and get the same year or change every darn part there is. For instance my 99 has a gem but its not used for much. Newer trucks the gem gets used more and more..Plus you need the wiring diagrams for each..Good luck and what an effort..

I have not gotten to that point quite yet but from all of the service manuals I have been looking at I can just buy stock 7.3 mounts for my year truck and bolt right in.

Got off the phone with my parts supplier the harness is still being removed from their truck but will be here next week hopefully.

Thanks MDSuperDuty I hope so and it will be a mean machine once it's done.

Why wouldn't the mounts currently under the donor 7.3 work?
There were no significant changes in mounts throughout the 7.3powerstroke evolution.
94-97obs mounts look just like 02Excursion 7.3mounts.
They clean up real nice in a blasting cabinet.

As some of the 7.3 Brothers have already stated... pay close attention to signs of exhaust leaks. If your going to build for any kind of power, Most of us would strongly urge you to replace the stock pipes with bellowed. IH and Dorman are available. Dorman cost about 200$ less than the IH. For the purpose they serve, i notice no major difference in quality between the two after installing many sets of both.

Since the motor will be out anyway... attack everything you can afford to at once.
Oil cooler, fuel bowl rebuild, turbo has to come off to safely get the motor out and then in... so rebuild while its out now. A fuel rail crossover helps significantly with cackle and throttle response for many who install them.
Good time for an updated compressor wheel.

Hope the wiring swap doesnt give you too many headaches.

Nvk4 is a common calibration.
My truck has an nvk4 pcm.
Im not sure why you need a different one?
I wanna say the 4x4 relays are powered from the fuse box/gem... then to a 4x4 relay box under the hood next to the brake booster. You may need to locate one of these boxes if the harness does not include it.

You do realize that 7.3 will not work with a gasser 4r100...

Unless i missed it reading over the last 5 pages...
You will either need to put that handshaker in, or find a diesel tranny.

In either case... dont try to put them in bolted together as a unit.
The engine alone weighs in at over 1100lbs.
For as high as your going to have to lift it, i would not even attempt it without a 2ton crane.

Heck of an undertaking and hope for a speedy completion!

Thanks Chris

The mounts are the same I am just replacing them as I don't know how weak they will be from rust and don't know yet if they will have to be cut off or will come off nicely.

As far as checking pipes it is on the list as I will be pulling the engine and doing a full cleaning and check over before dropping it in the other truck. Also I have a box of Riff Raff parts ready to go on, including the FRX, Plenum reinforcements, CCV kit, AIH delete ported plug, 6637 Kit (already installed on current truck without cover). I also have a van turbo on the bench. Boost, Trans, and EGT, IISPRO EV2 gauges and light dimming switch harness. Also going to be doing glow plugs and new harnesses along with the hutch and harpoon mod, new 4" turbo back exhaust, and I already did the foil delete.

I know the trans wont fit behind the 7.3L I am getting the output shafts switched out to do the 4x2 to 4x4 conversion.

The harness I am getting is from a 2002 7.3L so it will use my current VSS, 4x4, Airbag module. No GEM in 2002. I think this requires the VDH5 Due to pin-out differences on the harness. I have and NVK4 from the current truck but don't think it will work.

And I am putting the engine and trans/transfer-case in separately. But I did get a 2 ton hoist with a 5 ton long travel ram new from an auction.

I can when I get around to pulling the engine. Should have my picker back in the next week from Rich once he gets his trans back in his bronco.

Harness shipped out today. Once I get that in I will mock it up and get started putting the dash back together.

Been awhile since I did an update. Nothing really done to the truck as I have been traveling for work and had a wedding in Canada this past weekend.

The harness came in and turned out to be for a 2001 and did not have the correct connectors for all of my modules. So after a fight with the company I had to call and have my credit card company reverse the charge as they were not willing to work with me even though they had sent me the wrong year harness.

The search for the right harness is proving difficult as they are not made anymore and the only place is junkyards.

Well Rich brought the catch pan and picker back. So I did drain the radiator when I got home on Monday. I am gone this weekend but should be able to get back to work and get the engine and trans pulled out of the truck soon.

those danged harnesses. My Formula has twins and the harnesses are $2250 each installed. guess what? I haven't changed them. salt water is a bitch. I think you can order a new harness from JEGS. You are definitely better off with a brand stinkin new harness.

Oh no, It would take forever to build the harnesses I need LOL

I need the dash harness and the Firewall/underhood harness (not the one on the engine but the one on the firewall that includes the headlights and PCM connectors)

It has to be from a late 2002 when they switched from the GEM to the VSS and the ESOF 4x4 module.

If anyone has a line on one it would be greatly appreciated!
