Its a 62 falcon club wagon.144 i6 engine. Just put a rebuild kit in carb. New plugs. New coil. I've been trying to get it to start. But I keep getting backfire through the carb. Someone told me its timing. I just wanna make sure.

sure sounds like either the timing is off, or the plug wires are not on the cap proper firing order.

Check your timing and plug wires on distributor cap to firing order...its certainly the culprit.
