Looking at my 1961 Motor's Manual"
1957 engines were a 312 or a 368 Going by the pic in the manual it's a 57.
1958 engines were: a 312, a 383, or a 430.
The 352, 383, 390, and 430 engines have the combustion chamber in the block, not the head.

She'a a beauty! I always thought the lights above the windshield on the Turnpike Cruiser were a classic feature of this era of Mercurys.

The engine section of the manual shows a cross section of "352.383, 390, and 430" engines as having the combustion chamber in the block, not the head.

1956 and 1957 were 368's 1958 they went to 430.
