British Type Remote Brake Booster?

I was wondering if anybody has tried using a 1960s/1970s British type remote brake booster? The brake booster kits that I have seen for the Fords are connected directly to the master cylinder while the British style can be mounted remotely - under the dash, behind the seats, whatever. There is no physical connection to the master cylinder like conventional brake boosters - only the brake lines and a vacuum hose is connected. It actually acts like a high-pressure pump to boost the brake pressure: Brake fluid enters from an input line near the yellow (on the booster below) then manifold vacuum causes the pressure to increase within the booster at which point it comes out the end and is routed to the brakes. I have used these extensively on my old autocross Austin Mini Coopers and MGs and they work fairly well. I don't see why it couldn't be retrofitted to a truck with space issues. The downside is they are pretty expensive.

The only thing I would question is whether or not it is large enough to provide enough boost to adequately assist stopping a 4000 pound truck + potential payload, vs the 2000 pound sports cars they are designed for. Beyond that, the arrangement isn't much different than the setup used on the F6 trucks. They also used a separated master/booster under the floor.

True. I have one sitting on the shelf but already have a CCP kit on my F1. I guess it is not worth the risk. Maybe I will sell it to a Mini owner just to be safe.

PS: I just noticed that you live in Kennewick. My mom lived in the tri-cities area for quite a while. I liked it there but she is in Walla Walla now.

It is an incredibly small world. If you ever come up to visit mom, stop by and say hi.
