Transfer Case Ripped in Half

I'm not the one these following problems happened to but I thought everyone here would like to hear this one. I tried to get my buddy to register here so he could post his own story with pictures but I will do my best relaying what happened.

It all began a couple yrs ago when my friend Ray took a ride in my truck and said he had to have one. So, he went out and bought a 2013 Supercrew FX4 Ecoboost, I have the 5.0. Now he takes great care of his truck, I've never seen him abuse it. Shortly after he bought the truck there was a clicking noise that Ford said was coming from the driveshaft. So they replaced it. Between all of this he decided to chip the engine, which he had professionally done (don't know the exact kind). But the driftshaft problem kept coming back so they replaced the driveshaft 2 more times! Okay, this is where it gets good....
His co-worker got his truck stuck a week ago or so and needed pulled out. So they hooked the trucks up, made sure the rope was tight, and he started pulling. In the middle of the pull he heard a bang, got out, looked under the truck, and his transfer case and driveshaft were laying on the ground. His truck was hauled to Ford and they had no explanation for it. They said the yoke should have broke before the transfer case ripped in half....well that's obvious. They replaced it all and said sorry. Now, he's selling the truck and I don't really blame him. I didn't believe him until I saw the pictures and wish I could post them for you guys. I apologize for not having them.

Sounds like a real fluke.
Once in a while, a defect is possible. Quality control is pretty good these days, but sometimes this can happen.
I wouldn't sell a truck because of this, because it could happen to anybody / any brand, it's just a fluke.
Wether or not the driveshaft issue is because of a faulty transfer case is hard to say for sure, but at least they fixed it.

Sorry about your friends truck! Yeah, I would not be selling it now, they found the problem and it is fixed. seems like they nmissed the issue, but in the end he found it. The fact that they fixed it under warrenty and all says the program worked as planned.

I agree with oldrifleman in that it sounds like the dealer miss diagnosed the real issue here. But to be honest I'm surprised that the dealer warranted the loss. I've seen instances in the past where someone had something similar happen while working and driving there truck in the field of their own farm and the dealer didn't warranty their issue. The dealer called abuse of the truck. And I'm surprised this dealer didn't do the same thing here. I too wouldn't sell it. Things happen and that is what the warranty is for. In this case the warranty worked to his benefit.

I was most surprised that the dealership didn't blame any of it on the programmer. Good thing they honored the warranty.

The tuner will void any and all (most likely) power train issues. I would have recommended that he and anyone else wait to install those items until after the warranty has expired.
