Left-Rear power door lock mechanism - How to remove?

Hello-

My driver's side rear door lock is not locking/unlocking like it should. It moves very slowly and will lock, nut not unlock. I removed the door panel.

I can't figure out how to remove the parts to inspect and attempt a repair. It looks like the door lock is actuated by the latch mechanism that bolts to the side of the door (door jamb). I removed the flexible rod that connects latch to door lock ****, but can't figure how to remove the rod that connects the exterior handle with the latch. Th rod has a s shape end to it and you would need to twist the latch around to remove the rod.

Thanks!

You need to drill or grind off the head of the rivet that holds it to the door. You will also need a 1/4 rivet to put it back on(and the BIG 1/4" rivet gun)

You can use a bolt. I did when I put the rear door actuator back in my '97 Crew Cab. But it wasn't easy to get at the head of the bolt buried behind the actuator. I might end up regretting I did it that way if I can't get a good enough hold of it to get it removed when it comes to that.

And that is why I use the 1/4" rivet

I don't want to have to buy a 1/4" rivet gun, so my options are limited!

Good luck. I tried a bolt but could not get to the inside to hold it

Justa FYI, that rear actuator is $300

There have been a few threads recently about subbing in other actuators that aren't ridiculously priced. Here's one. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...actuators.html I haven't tried it myself yet, but I might. The actuator I bolted in works but it squeals obnoxiously. Not bad enough to pay $300 to replace, but I might give it a shot sometime.

Bob, thanks for the link. Just what I was looking for! I asked OP for the part # and brand name. I found a Dorman part # 746-147 that looks just like the one in pic. This part # is for a 1991 Country Squire (last year of this wagon). $27.89 at Rock Auto.

Does anyone know if these actuators will work with a f250 as well?
