Anyone with a code reader near San Jose?

Hey all, our new truck threw a check engine light about 30 minutes into our first big haul and it hasn't gone off. No big change in the performance of the truck, but would like to know what's going on. Slim chance I know, but anyone have a code reader in San Jose and could meet up tomorrow (Sunday) night? We'll buy you food and beer!

Im sure there's someone in the bay that could provide I code reader. I'll try and remember who's down that way with AE and point them this direction if I can come up with a name...

Let's see if we can draw Stewart here just by mentioning his name. He might have an idea.

LOL, you're too funny Rick.

The closest person I know of in that area would be Andy in Morgan Hill, but I don't think his AE is working because he's asked others to bring theirs when we all converge on his place for tech day on May 31.

I'm not sure anyone would even have time tomorrow, with it being Mothers Day and all.

If you have a smart phone or tablet check this thread out Natalie.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...werstroke.html

I got the dongle listed there and it works well with both my 7.3 and my 6.0. Real handy ont he 6.0l as it can read a lot of different data as well as check and clear codes. All in about $20 for a decent code reader and gauge set.

Not sure but I think my SC can be plugged into your truck as well and pull codes. I will be in Pleasanton for next 2 days if that helps.

Hey guys, thanks for the all the help. I did get the code, and it was "turbo boost under charge". Just some loose connections.

They can't read diesel trucks.

Sorry, they can't read 7.3L diesel trucks.

I believe the 6.0 is OBD 2 compliant.

^This. The 7.3's are semi- OBDII so most cheap code readers wont get much info from them.

They can get a lot from a 6.0l though. But again, torque app is the way to go IMO.

I stopped in to Auto zone today to pick up a few things, I asked the guy If he could Check for DTCs on my diesel 6.0 , ( I didn't have any ) but wanted to know if he would go check , The guy said not right now but come back in a hour, I told him hell in an hour it will be 101 if you didn't want to go out when it was 98 you darn sure wont go out in 101 , I guess I should say some Auto zones will check for DTCs. OBDII my truck is a late built 04 6.0 and my Scan Gauge II did pull a MAP DTC about 1 1/2yrs ago.

Scan Gauge will read a 7.3, as will most higher end code readers. But the "regular" generic OBD II code readers found at Autozone don't have the ability to read the 7.3L PSD.

The same with Napa, I had to convince the guy that it was a diesel and not all code readers will scan/read them.

Autozone will also loan you the scanner as part of their Loan A Tool program. Keep it as long as you want. Return it and get your deposit back.
