Im looking for an extended cab f-150 not sure what year either 73-79 or 80 -86. my question is what year 300/4.9 should i look for I could buy any truck and swap a good 6 in her I just don't know if they ever had any probs with certain years or power train combos

No such thing as a 'best year' for a 300. The major difference, and the only thing that makes a difference is carbed V EFI. Pre-86 are carbed, post 86 are EFI.
