Towing it backwards on a dolly? I'd not recommend it, as it's really difficult to get the wheels straight AND locked down so they won't turn while you're moving. If they turn while you're driving, all sorts of bad things can happen to good folks.

If it has an automatic, I'd drop the drive shaft out of it and tow it with the front wheels on the dolly. If it a manual trans, just put it in neutral. If the back tires are flat, and you're just being lazy, change the dang tires, man.

If you pull the driveshaft invest in a tail shaft plug so you don't loose your fluid.

Pull the driveshaft at the differential and tie it up to a frame cross member. leave it plugged in the tranny.
A question would be, how far are you towing it, across town or across the country? This could very well change the answer.

If ithe frt wheels are on the dolly, with the tilt , there should be enough fluid lubricating the rear tranny seal. Back in the day, a lot of tow truck's towed their vehicle from the front. Good luck.

DRIVE IT! More fun. Talk when you get there or let someone ride with you.

I`m planning on going to the FE reunion in Beaver Sprgs Pa,,

And have no reservations about the reliabilty of driving my 427 powered 56 F100. One small problem, fuel consumption! Its definitely going on the trailer! Either of my shop trucks get much better mileage(diesel) for the 350 mile trip.

I towed mine on a dolly. Front wheels up. Towed it just over an hour. Tranny (auto) in neutral.

Of course the tranny just blew to he'll yesterday, but I dot think the two are related.

I am sorry but the cost to drive my F100 or my 40 coupe is not part of question. That is the fun for me, build it and drive it. One of the reasons younger folks aren't interested is because they don't to enjoy the sight of an older vehicle [hotrods for me] running down the road. To many cruise night only vehicles in my humble opinion.
