2012 V10 in Motorhome help with rpm

Sorry If this is in wrong room and OT.
Dad has 2012 Bay Star 29 ft Motorhome with V10.

He has been instructed as well as manual says, to keep rpm's under 3000.
It has 5speed with OD.

Does this sound right?? The power band is above 3000 rpm right?

He was told its bad for valves or something.

Any other rooms to post this in and I will.

Thanks in advance

Dad was told the engine was a commercial V10. I know in a Super Duty they wind it up pretty tight to redline

Let that thing rev, its built to do just that. There is good torque right around 3k rpm's, there is even more around 4k. Around 5k it runs out of breath but you really don't need to go that high. Experiment with certain speeds in OD and lock out OD and do some more experimenting. Depending on your rear gear ratio and weight of your RV you might have different results than others with a lighter RV and different gears. Also that engine wont break in until you roll over 5000 miles.

Dad was told by someone that didn't know what they were talking about.

The computer will let the engine run at any RPM that is safe for it. It will not allow the engine to run at a speed that could cause damage. The computer is very smart in that regard.

I havent installed it yet, but I got a tuner from 5 star which is supposed to help this situation out. I dont like the high rpms and lack of throttle control that the engine offers and when I contacted 5 star the owner responded that his tuner would make the engine operate better and with less rpms.

I would have your dad contact 5star with his concerns and get the answer direct. 5 Star has good reputation and has positive feedback on this and other forums, just FYI.

These v10s are stout engines he won't hurt it going 3000+ rpms that computer won't let it blow. Tell him enjoy the camper and stop listening to who ever is giving him bad info.

A Mike's 5 Star will wake that MH up for sure. As stated, no problem up to 5k rpm's and over.

Thanks everybody, I sent a link to the post for him to review.

Will pass on any info he give's. Definetely get the consensus he should just Hammer down on the go pedal.

I like the experiment idea so see how it reacts. The gear ratio is probably 4.10 or lower.

Think he said it gets 8-8.5 on a good day. No doubt the engine is strong, they tow a Honda CRV also.

Take care

Your rear gear ratio could be 4:56, 4:88, 5:13 or 5:88 and there might even be a 5:32 in there some where. A tuner from 5star will get rid of that throttle lag and help the trans with quicker and crisper shifts.
