1969 F100 truck engine question

I found a 1969 F100 SWB truck with lots of options, auto dim headlights, A/C, cruise control, factory door speakers, PS, PB and to top it off 427 fender badges, was a 427 available in these trucks??? it has a 390 in it now and is in very rough shape but the amount of options it has would seem to make it very rare.

hutchinaugusta, Welcome to and the bumpside Forum.

427 was never available in a truck only 352/360/390. Have you checked the stroke to verify that it is not a 360? All FEs seem to become 390s on sale day.

What John said, but a lot can happen in 45 years. Most of the time it's just emblems, but sometimes (extremely rarely) it's not. Post your door plate codes for what originally came in the truck. And post what ever casting numbers you can find on the block/heads/intake for further identification. 360's and 390's are identical externally except for the engine tag. 427's found their way into boats and there's quite a few of them on the market in various stages of decay. Nothing's impossible, but it is very 'improbable.'

427? Highly unlikely but ya never know until you verify. Believe nothing the seller says. Buyer beware.

I recall a 427 would have screw-in core (freeze) plugs... If it has'em, then look for horizontal bulge along the right side for.... a side oiler. A center-oiler of course won't have it.

427's had a peaky torque curve. While in the torque band hold on to you Butt! I assume that is why Ford deleted it in favor of the 428 which had a broad torque band. This is when Ford was getting out of their "Total Performance" era. All True Ford lovers should read up on that program. It was more like world wide total dominance. Remember GT40,Indy,Cobra,Shelby,etc.?

Uh huh
Welcome to FTE

This truck is a Frankenstein Monster with parts swapped from gawd only know what.

AFAIK, no autodim headlights available for any year truck, no cruise control was available until 1975, no truck of any year came w/a 427.

427 fender emblems have been stuck on all sorts of vehicles (including Falcon I-6's!) since 1963, when it was introduced.

P/S first offered as an option in 1966 F100/250 (2WD), power brakes in 1965 F100/350's, door speakers in 1971 F100/350's but only with stereo.

'Hang-on' A/C optional for 1965/72 F100/350's, 1973 was the first year for 'in-dash' A/C. 1965/67's used the same 'hang on' A/C bezel as 1965/66 Mustang.

1968/72's available with 3 different types of A/C:

1) Factory installed integral A/C combined with the heater. A/C controls located in same panel as heater controls.

2) Deluxe dealer installed A/C, two A/C switches mounted in bezel that sweeps across the entire underside of the dash.

3) Economy dealer installed A/C, two switches mounted in bezel located at center, underside of dash.

Do not believe a single word a private seller claims...as they lie just like used/new car dealers, lawyers, politicians and TV evangelists.

Do not believe the miles shown on the odometer...as it reads to 99999.9 then returns to ZERO. And...on sale day, 352/360 engines magically become 390's!

Casting numbers on FE engine blocks/heads are WORTHLESS for ID'ing the engine sizes, what vehicles the engines were installed in.

Casting numbers are foundry marks, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

They didn't come with auto headlamps or cruise either. So we get back to Rasputin's 45 year thing. I think it kinda cool OP's truck has this stuff.

If you can find your the data plate (if it's still there) it will tell you most of what the truck had. Engine, trans, rear end etc. idk about a 69 but on my 70 it was on the inside of the drivers side door.
