I have a 2002 7.3 with the 4r100 173k miles. If your nice to it she drives fine, but if you get on it the torque converter will slip/stall kinda revs up like 300 rpm then slams really hard between 1st and 2nd. Other gears work fine. I've only had it not happen like 10 times since I've owned the truck ..... I don't really beat on it except for towing which I'm starting to do a lot of. Wondering if putting a new stock torque converter in it is worth it.? Not gona blow the bank on a TC unless I'm putting a brand new trans in the truck. Which I don't think it needs in the near future.
I don't really think it needs a rebuild? Fluid is good never lots of metal or anything always shifts good and hard just 1-2 when your on it that's the only flaw? If not TC could it be a band or and adjustment? I'm just pulling ideas out of my *** but I guess brain storming isn't always a bad idea might wrap something loose in someone's brain!
That not a TC issue, it sounds like a re-build is in your future. Does the truck have a chip or tuner on it?
Yes a TS6 that I have only had the ballz to run on level 4 75hp/150tq but it does it on level 3 50/100 level 5 100/200 and level 140/280 BUT I guess I haven't tried it on level one which is stock I'll have to go out and try that
If it goes away on stock then its a tuner issue. If not Id say the transmission is on its way out. Do you have gauges to monitor EGT's and trans temp at the least bit? The factory "gauge" does nothing.

I have glowshift led gauges for boost EGT and volt but I have had it on a snap on scanner driving on the highway it is around 170-180 at operating temp.
If the rpms are combing before it's shifting then shifts hard it sounds like your getting some slippage from 1-2, it won't take long for the trans to burn itself up now
When it does go to shift from 1-2 does it feel like it's in neutral for a second? If so see above.

No it is still accelerating just revving up? I tried my TS 6 on stock mode and it shifts fine at WOT not very firm but it dosnt slip or rev up non of that. I'm wondering if I can get the chip re burned for better trans control.

It's not always a good idea when one doesn't know what one is brainstorming about.
The only band in the transmission is only used when the shift handle is in the 2 position. When the shift handle is in 2 the band is NEVER applied. So no, the band isn't the problem. And since NOTHING is adjustable in the transmission, an adjustment isn't the problem, either.

Try completely removing the tuner. If it works right then, you have a tuner issue. If it is still having problems with the tuner completely removed from the truck then the problem is inside the trans.
