My Plan of Action

I am looking at doing at the least a top end rebuild for my 89' 460 with 160k.

Here's what I want. . . I think

Comp cam xe262h
Straight up timing set
P51 heads
Banks power pack

What I'm arguing with myself about is which direction to go regarding the intake and efi vs carb.

Truck is going to be for weekend work only but I want it to have some grunt.

If I stick with just the top end what kits are the best for use with the stock crank?

The only heads available that can run the EFI intake is the stock ones. Now there are other ways around this, but they require a certain intake(can't remeber which one) and the hole for injectors to be machined into them.

That makes my decision on efi vs carb then

Now I'll find a carb to add to the list

I won't need a power pack from banks now as I won't need the air intake

Do efi heads have different exhaust ports than the carb heads? If they do I won't need anything from banks at all.

Yes, the intake and exhaust ports are different on carb vs. EFI heads.

What transmission is in the truck? E4OD/C6/ZF, etc.

I think I may have misunderstood Evan's post

is there an aftermarket intake that will allow me to keep the efi setup?

Here is the only way I have seen to use carb heads and EFI.

If you are going to use those pricey Kaase heads to their full potential then you definitely need an aftermarket EFI system.

When talking about aftermarket efi are we talking about a standalone piggy back controller or upgrading to a modern maf efi?

With all this in mind it's making me want to go carb for budgets sake
