Help with what suspension to use

I am going to build this 1955 f100. I want it low to the ground and have the best ride possible. Without air bags. Plus im on a budget. With that being said Should i go aerostar, xj6 Jaguar front and rear , Crown Vic .. Im on the fence here. Any Thoughts??????????

CVs are plentiful and cheap ($200 up) but limits Wheel selection. Can't speak about the others.

I am a firm believer of the CV for a budget build. The Jags are nice, but I like the forward steer of the CV. Just a personal preference. There is also a market out there for the CV aftermarket parts. Lots of taxi's..........

Not too mention keeping it all ford.

2003 and newer

Height depends on you.............2" lowering springs are available (I have these in mine). When I first installed mine, My bumper was at 12" after the lowering springs it now sets at 14", go figure. Spring guy says it will settle (I don't think it will settle 4"). Stay away from eaton springs. There is another company that makes them that has good reviews...........coilspring.com

Might want to join the crownvic forum, lots of good info from those guys. They have helped me a lot.

Mine should be at 8" when settled. If you want to go lower you can but it requires notching your frame, much like a Cnotch on the rear. Then just move the crossmember up.

The downfall of notching is it moves your engine up as well, unless your reform the oil pan.

There are several members that have installed CV IFSs here on the Forum. There are several ways to install it (has to do with where you shim it on the frame). Also another advantage is you can move the front wheels forward (approximately 1 1/2) to center them in the wheel well. +s disk brakes, power steering, very nice ride. -s wider than F100 frame and limited wheel selection. Look for some late model Mustang wheels.
Keep us posted on what you decide to do and post pictures!!!

I do like the Volare ride and handling, but I would not use it again. Cross member is too big and blocks the lower end of the front of the motor. Too many better options now. I think I would be looking at Jag stuff myself. Good luck and enjoy the build, then enjoy the drive.

Had chadbob where are you located? That looks like a 55 I had once several years ago. I was driving a 54 at the time. I sold it before I got started on it and sold the 54 also. We moved and I didn't have anywhere to park the 55 or work on both of them.

I lived in Raytown, Missouri when I sold it. What engine does it have in it?
