51 wiper- Jeep Cherokee
After seeing Indybeer's writeup on the jeep wiper motor I decided to try it for my 51 panel. Everything works pretty much the same as what he did. I made the arm on the motor about 3/4 " long and stepped it so it clears the bolt heads. The motor is mounted to the front of the mechanism, there is plenty of room for it under the dash and it ends up about even with the back edge of the vent. I tried it out by hooking the battery charger to it and it seems to work smoothly. It wasn't anything that hard to do and hopefully when my switch gets here everything will work just right. Total cost was $31.

It was around a 90 model Cherokee, I couldn't find a definite year on it when I pulled the wiper motor. I've got the wire colors written down but they are out in the shop. I'll post them tomorrow evening. I did mount it and there is plenty of room, the motor ends up about even with the back edge of the vent. I don't know yet if it will need more bracing, I'm still a good ways from being on the road. I ordered a switch from Speedway and when I get it I'll see if I can tell.

Gary is using the stock dual vacuum wiper bracket from a 51. Looks like a separate plate was made to attach the wiper arms and motor together.
Perhaps a more thorough conversion write up would be great, especially the dimensions of the plate and mounting points.
This is the stock dual wiper assembly. I think I have a couple of them.

I don't have real precise measurements for this but here's what I did.
I marked the centerlines for the vacuum motor before I removed it from the mechanism. Then I cut a 3"x7" plate lined it up with the mechanism and transferred the centerline marks. I drilled a 1/2 " whole for the motor shaft then used the motor to mark for the mounting holes.
The motor arm is made from the cherokee arm and the 51 arm welded together.
With the motor mounted to the plate I clamped the plate to the mechanism and attached the wiper arms. I then hooked up my battery charger and ran the wipers. I kept adjusting the plate location until everything ran smoothly, I then drilled holes for mounting the plate to the mechanism and bolted it all together.
The wiring is:
red-high speed
brown- low speed
green-park feed
blue - return to park
black-ground
When I get the switch I ordered I'll mount everything in the panel and see if extra bracing is needed and check the wiper sweep too.
Hope this makes it a little clearer.

Not sure if you are going with intermittant wipers or simple two speed but here is the wire hookup for jeep motor and ford switch
On switch....Large black......Power in and Black/white stripe........to washer
Blue/orange stripe......Red hi on motor
White.......Brown lo
Red......Green park feed
Black/pink.......Blue park return
On motor black to ground
I am going to pic a part tomorrow to look for washer motor and nozzles...plus pick up intermittant wiper switch for just in case. Can post wiring for that when I get it if needed.

The wiper should be different for the '48-50 models. The wiper vacuum motor mounts up behind and above the speedometer, the later models motors, both vacuum and electric mount in the middle. The later model setup is easier to use but the only problem is if you have a stock radio. The wiper motor on the later models will not allow a stock radio to fit. The '51-52 stock radio sits lower in the dash.
