7.3 powered 79 ranger f350
Just started today with a new project. I am doing a 7.3 powerstroke swap into a 79 f350. Pulled from my 2000 f250 donor truck: wiring, hydroboost, fuse boxes, ecm and idm, fuel pump, radiator and intercooler in about 4 hours today. Not bad for working alone. Will go after larger parts when I can get help.
I have a second 7.3 out of a 95 e350 van that will power the 79 (got a good buildable engine from 2000) for forged rods, for better handling of power upgrades. I have a set of stage 2s and a second fuel pump (in case I go further) and a terminator pump for fueling. Im looking at a couple of bigger turbos, just cant decide where to go there. Also looking at a chevy outside the frame gearbox and converting to highsteer.
If my work schedule works for me Im thinking about 8 months to a year and it will be complete, but if it keeps going this quick, could be shorter. Best part is, my wife is pushing for the truck to be done, so it might keep me motivated.
Anyone else doing anything similar right now? Maybe we could help each other along the way. I have a good idea of what to do to get it done, and I work on heavy equipment for a living so I might be able to help someone else doing this as I go.

I havent really gotten anywhere because of title issues with the 79. Finally got that cleared up after a year. I have been helping my brother with his mud drag truck the last few months, so I havent had time for my project. I should get back on it in the next couple weeks though. I will try to update this as it comes along.

Little update, got both 7.3s pulled apart, and both require machining, so I am using the 2000 engine, has block updates and forged rods. The 95 engine shows almost no wear, but condensation got to the 5 and 7 cylinders and would need machining also.
At least with a spare I can work on mounting while the block is being bored and heads checked.
This next weekend I may try to get the 400 and running gear out and start firewall modification so the engine can sit in further and have room for the up pipes and turbo, but I also thought about remote mounting a different turbo.
It is looking like I may be back on track with this project.

Never kept up with this, then for some reason I just remembered I had this post. Anyways, I fired it up 4th of July 2017, and have been working here and there on it since.
I have put it in truck pulls but mainly use it off-road. It actually does pretty good for what it is.
Here is the first truck pull photo, I ended up getting 2nd.
If there is enough interest in this I can post more, but a lot of my build photos were on my old phone and can't get them.

Nice. I have a 76 F350 crewcab. ive converted it to 4wd and got most of the suspension done. it's got a bolt on king coilover setup in the front.
I started in 2018 but havent worked on it since. I really need to get back to it but current situation isn't ideal. One day
I decided to use the 01 donor chassis. It has a SD D60 and D80 with discs all the way around. I was going to use a 97 but didn't want to use that rear drum axle.
Anyway, i love these builds
