6.0L Cab swap on to a 7.3L truck

I have an opportunity to purchase two trucks, a 2001 7.3L which runs and drives but was rolled over and the cab is shot, interior is OK.

And the other is a 2004 6.0L which is "blown up" and it has over 200k miles on it.

So I am thinking about putting the 6.0L cab and bed on the 7.3L. They look the same but I'm sure there are some differences.

Thoughts? Thank you!

I just bought a 2004 crew cab cab. I was concerned about the pcm hole for the 7.3L...but the 6.0 cab has a plastic plug in the hole.

What the real issue is...the vin number goes with the cab. So you can swap, but the truck will have a "reconstructed vehicle" title.

I looks to be a big job. But $800 for a Texas cab, a fender and 4 doors was simply too good of a deal to pass up.

If that is the case you will have a vehicle that will no longer pass any emissions tests because of the old motor in the newer truck.

Truthfully though, that question is left answered by the state DMV Dept. The DMV, when presented with all the pertinent documents, could assign a new vin for the vehicle which would satisfy the model year emission constraints.

there is no worry about emissions. in New Jersey diesel pickups are self inspecting and do not need an inspection or emissions sticker.

I looked into doing this here in CT a few months ago. I was told that if I took both VINs to the DMV, they would assign a new VIN to the truck.

and after you do the cab swap, you can say you have a 2004 with a 7.3.
the vin goes with the cab. so the truck will also have a clean title instead of a salvage or reconstructed title.

Mine's gonna end up somewhat the same as the Riffraff project. Frame off restoration. I'm gonna need a beater to drive while my rig is down and at the spa. But for $50k I can spent a bunch on rehabbing an '01.

I'm in process of amassing parts, and I'll probably go for it next spring/summer.
