Looks like I've destroyed my flywheel...

Well my fears are realized. I've blown out a few teeth on the flywheel of my 2000 E-250...

I was hoping it was just my starter but it also looks like I should replace that part as well...

Wish me luck you all!!

Good luck! How many miles on the van? I'm afraid my '04 with 225k may have a chipped tooth, starter went bad last year so I replaced it but the whine of tooth slippage still happens occasionally.

Wow, that seems premature unless there's alot of short trips in that 130k.

Oh yeah, this has been a mostly "around town" van. Should I take any precautions or preventative measures in the repair to ease this sort of wear and tear?

Just make sure you replace the starter as well as the flywheel. Check clearances and shim if required to ensure full engagement. Don't cheap out and get a Pep-Boys starter, go to a starter/alternator repair shop for a heavy-duty locally rebuilt unit.
