12v Wiring Harness for F1

I have a '51 F-1 that has a 350 in it that came out of a 1969 Impala. The motor was already in it when I bought it. There was a fire due to a gas leak below the carburetor and the wires were all burnt and melted. I need to know how to go about finding out what kind of wiring harness I need to look for to replace it. Electrical is not my thing so I'm hoping for some help from those of you with electrical knowledge.

Thank you, I will check into that. I've also been told that I can go through a Chevy dealer or even a junk yard. At the risk of sounding like a real novice and not knowing much about electrical, how do I know what would be compatible with the motor and the truck?

If it is only the engine compartment wiring that burned, I would take it to an automotive electric shop and have them re-wire the damaged circuits. Otherwise, if the whole truck's wiring is in poor shape, a stock replacement harness modified to suit the Chev motor would likely be the easiest route. The typical Painless or EZ Wiring universal harness is going to require a lot of electrical experience.

I agree with what Ross said. If it was just and engine fire on a running driving truck then I'd go for the repair route.

You could probably go to a wrecking yard and get and engine harness for any GM vehicle from the mid 60's to late 70's and have everything you need. The basic engine wiring is pretty simple and basic schematics are readily available.

Good luck
Bobby
