Exclamation !!!Help!!!-Middle of New Injector Job-Not going well

So Im finally doing this job now.
Smoking like a champ....

T500 HPOP
All 8 AD INJECTORS
HPx
FRx
Fuel Bowl Rebuild.

I did Gps under a year ago while working on the everlasting cold start issue with AutoLite's because I didn't know anybetter at the time.

Now the second GP back on each side wont come out. It is past the thread out but im assuming swollen? I was able to get DS out with slide hammer without it crumbling but PS is still stuck in head.

WHY?
Is it normal for all 7 so far to have oil on them? (I pulled Injectors then Gp's)
Any secret ways to get this GP out without pulling head?

Should I re torque Rocker arms or check lash while in there?
I have pulled 2 rockers to get in with slide hammer. What spec to tighten to?
Yes I used hand vac in holes, Unpluged IPR and cranked a few times before installing New Injectors...

WTH? Why Me Again ?lol

Haggs, I have no experience removing stuck glow plugs, but I found this and it may be the best insurance into not removing a head if you happen to break the plug tip off:
"Glow plug removal article"
Good luck

if it is stuck the only way to be 100% is to pull the head. it is aggravating to have to do for a gp.

It is normal for oil to be on the GPs as they are removed - I think because there is oil around the top of the plugs and as you remove them, they get coated. If you blow the oil out from around the plug heads with compressed air, I bet they'll come out dry, but I never bothered.

Dang those autolite GPs.

Keep spinning it while trying to remove. It usually works!

You have already forced one out... did the whole unit come out, or are pieces missing? If complete GPs don't come out, I'm not the expert on this but I believe you're done in. Autolites create a huge "Oh crap" for the owners - they are dreaded for the very reason you are faced with right now.

The one that was stuck in DS came out with the crows foot on slide hammer intact thank god.
The PS, not so much. My crows foot is soft and keeps bending. Im looking for a nice machined steel one now but no luck so far.
And Im sure when/if it comes out it will probley leave pieces and all this time will be for not as Ill have to pull head anyways.

All that testing I had to do to diagnose the bad #8 2 months ago probley overheated these cheap ars autolite ones.

For ease of access, I've PDF'd the article referenced above and attached it for easy download. I also added a note near the end of the article related to the use of constant duty glow plugs in our 7.3's.

White Smoke

I'm seeing white smoke coming out the exhaust pipe. A few drops of looks like oil on the cement. It has a slight mis , no blow by coming from the oil filler cap and same from the anti freeze reservoir. Looks like a enjector?? Does anyone know of a good PSD mechanics in the Shreveport area? Oops forgot a 05 with 60 k on it

I've had autolites stuck in 2 different trucks. Sorry to say, but both times I pulled the heads-after I pulled the engine. Hope you can get it out. I never had any luck with that and am actually pretty impressed you got 1 out intact!

If you've only got one glow plug still intact, but stuck in there. I'd consider just tightening it back up and leaving it there. The truck will start with 7 working glow plugs and the heads get to stay on.

I did that on my '99, worked great for about 2 years than the tip fell off inside the engine. it makes a lot of noise when that happens! I now have #3 cylinder that won't fire until the engine temp comes up, I did get the old stem out after the tip came off and installed a new glow plug. I assume the tip of the glow plug damaged the tip of the injector when it came apart. I have never pulled the injector to look at it yet.

me personally I would not leave it in there after having hit it with a slide hammer, you don't know what damage that tip has on it.

some have had luck with a drill spinning it and spraying penetrating oil on it while spinning. working it up and down and wearing the swollen part off. the only problem is the shavings going through the engine after you get it out, but I guess shavings are better than a glow plug tip.
