truck shopping, opinion needed

I am looking for a 75-79 f150 4x4. First of all, LWB or SWB? I find more lwb,but I like the look of the swb.
I found a swb for $1700 that needs work, but will crank and run if bottle fed.
I found a lwb for $2800 that has had a lot of work done, runs decent, and looks good.

what ya'll think?

Without pics of both trucks and info (engine, trans, etc), our guesses would be as good as yours...

I mean from description the $2800 sounds better but...it'd be nice to see them. When you say "had a lot of work done", what does that specifically mean?

I prefer the short bed standard cab trucks, but it really depends on how much work you are willing to do.

Posting the sellers links would help quite a lot

Neither poster is returning my calls so I found another. 79 with 361m, sounds like a deal, has a few rust holes 2 in the bed and some rust on floorboard. It has 3/4 ton axles and gets 8 mpg. If there's something I can do to squeeze about 16 mpg, I may get it. Is it possible? If so how? Money is an issue.

16 mpg in these things? Nope. Not with a 351. Expect 10 city and 12 hwy at best. Hate to break it to ya like that but these things have no aerodynamics at all. Basically picture a refrigerator on wheels doing 70 mph...yup that's us.

Change out timing gears and chain to straight up timing and never ever put your foot in it. Dont go over stock size tires, and run stock gears. Might get a consistant 12 mpg.

Drive like a nun, then add a new timing chain since the original is retarded a few degrees. On the freeway stay at 55-60 mph.

I am fixing to make an offer on the f150 that hasthw 3/4 ton axles. Myconcern isthat it doesnt have the front driveshaft. The current owner says it was missing when they bought it. He claims that rhe yoke turns when 4x4 is engaged. What should ibe concerned about? Front differencial? How to check it all out? Will there be an issue finding a driveshaft to fit a f150 with 3/4 tonaxles?

is it 2wd?

I use to own a 79 F100 that I averaged 15.4mpg in that had a 351m in it.
I would not want to daily anything that gets less than 15mpg but I drive 50 miles round trip to work.
