248,548 according to the kilometer to miles per hour calculator, and of course assuming it is showing exactly 400,000 on the odometer.

It's a fact though. DIYMechanic up in the 7.3 section witnessed it just recently and there are numerous reports of it happening. The 90's PSD's stop counting at 399k.

Yeah, I did some research and there is a thread started in 2011 that talks about it. Seems all PSD trucks do it whether Canadian or American market. I am surprised nobody has sued Ford over this. So theoretically, this truck could have 2.4 million miles on it, but it would only register between 300k and 400k. That is unsettling to say the least.

Yeah, the FTE members in the thread didn't say they would sell theirs because they had no clue how many miles were on their trucks.

FWIW Jim, my dad just bought one with 310k on it (or perhaps 410k) and it out pulls mine with 240k.

I don't know why my mechanic is against it. I guess because of the bad luck I had with the two Jags. He says the parts are more expensive (like Jag parts) and that with that many miles on it, I am playing with fire as to when it will break down again. My reasoning other than what I have already stated (replacing both vehicles with one that gets better mpg than both) is that for the price I can't pass it up. These trucks are selling for a premium, and I am getting one for less than $3k (after I pay to have the trans installed, and fix the AC) I have no plans to sell it as I want to use it myself, but should I find myself in the position of having to sell it, I am sure it will go for more than what I have in it.

The door sticker says it has a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, so that would help in the mpg department. I cannot tell what my F350 has because the door sticker is missing. However, I am told there were only two ratios used in this truck in those years, 3.55:1 and 4.10:1. I am guessing it has the 4.10 gears. Of course, I don't know if Centurion changed the rear gears either. I have not been able to crawl under it and see if there is a tag on the diff case.

The door sticker on the 7.3? Those only came with the 3.55 and 4.10's too... I get 15+ with my 4.10's, huge tires, and heavy foot though. Parts are a little spendy for a diesel but a 7.3 compared to anything newer is chump change. That's why I'm getting rid of my 6.0l.

You are correct, I looked at the axle code chart wrong, it has the 3.55's in it. Should be even better. Jeff already stated he gets a high of 17 mpg, and an average of 15. So that alone is worth the hassle of selling my vehicles to get it.

I could not afford a newer diesel, and I love the obs style of truck. Apparently so do a lot of others, although I am sure the fact that they don't need to be smogged (another reason for me to buy it. ) helps too. Still that is my favorite style of Ford truck.

You just cannot beat these trucks. A big part of the reason that I bought my 97 is that the engineers hadn't figured out it was a good idea to put the frackin motor under the hood.

Whoevers idea that was deserves to permanently lose his TV remote and never make another yellow light in his life.
