I have a very capable friend. Frank gets involved like it is his own. He has always been there for me and Austin. Frank wants this truck for Austin as much as me. We are blessed to have a friend like him. Austin has nicknamed him "Uncle Frank".

Remember to enjoy, respect, and be responsible while preparing to put one of these great old trucks on the road.

So far it looks like these two. my daughter(5) and son (1) I told my 16 year old daughter that helping me restore this legacy truck and gaining some mechanical and organizational skills might even help her get into the college of her choice. So far, she's not enthusiastic. My mother, who lost the former owner (her husband) at the same time I did (my dad), gave some gentle pushes to help us move toward action. Last Sunday was moving day, and we've taken the first step to stopping the cancer of rust and getting a game plan down to getting this back on the road.

My sons are doing most of the trucks and i am the teacher. I see the miracle these trucks are at bonding generations together. I showed them some fabrication skills and taught them many different tools then stood back and let them go. In only 1 year they have become better than i was in 10. I am so shocked that 2 boys that couldnt put on a door **** 1 year ago have made cab corners, windshield trim, and cowl panels from sheet metal.

I prefer to work alone but the Helper who makes it all possible is my Wife of 44 years.

At my side through Street Rods, Drag Racing, and Muscle Cars, she came to love '48-'50 F1s after I built one in the '80s.

Ready if I need a third hand, not afraid of getting dirty, compliments my work, encourages when things turn to doo-doo and, lets me know when I need to slow down spending without drama.

My brother has helped me on many occasions with mechanical advise as well as giving me a hand on the truck from time to time. A few welding jobs I had to farm out to professionals, but apart from that, and the occasional turn of a spanner from my mrs (as long as she won't break her nails), that is about it.

That is probably about the best help you could hope for!

My son-in-law has done most of the welding and a few friends have helped when I ask.

Most of the work has been done by me. Seems like it is taking forever - I must be slow. A lot of hand made brackets - made with a hacksaw, cutoff wheel, grindet, and hand files.

I am proud of what I have accomplished so far.

Dan
