Hey guys I got my brother looking for an obs....He thinks he wants a regular cab auto...but seen a few extended cabs short bed manuals he likes to.... Some have stuff done like chip turbo injectors or what not.....just looking for some input on what you guys are getting milage wise auto and manual. ..Also how you fell bout a truck with chip and stuff put on....I like a stock truck I can do the work to...I feel with a chip or stuff done some one has been maybe gear heading it hard....to never know.... thanks for any input guys
Jason, obviously there are pros and cons to both. I've run them both in my truck now and I tend to lean towards the hand shaker for a few reasons. Price for one. After you convert to the SMF, the ZF is cheaper. Cheaper trans flushes, if you keep a stock clutch they can be relatively cheap and they are head and shoulders cheaper to rebuild. I also really like being able to choose what gear I'm in when towing. Although they do suck in traffic. Now if you've got the coin to go full out auto build, that might sway my decision. I have noticed no real difference in MPG's. They stay the same around 15 in the winter and 17 in the summer. Usually a little lower cause I can't keep my foot out of it!
Thanks man...I love my manual swap I did...I told him.if your going to throw power to it and don't have like 4 to 6 grand laying around to build an auto than go with the manual.....just not a lot out there....I said we can make it ! With the help of fte of cores. ....

Exactly. My total ZF swap with e fuel install was about 3k. That's with a brand new Valair SMF and Kevlar/ceramic clutch. You can't touch a built auto for that price.
Yeah that's what I am telling him.....you did a zf swap too? I need to.get the right wire or do the plug wire swap so it will start with the key.....I got the push button mod.....lol adds 4 hp to it

Yup. My stage 2's toasted the E4OD. Bill, Tyler, Nate and Alex all came by to get it knocked out.
Chip can be removed, and re-burned to your liking. Manual should get better mileage. ZF5 shifts slowly, but if you want reliability, and DON'T want stoopid electrical weirdness like brake light issues unlocking your TQC, 5-speed is the way to go.
Jason, are you sayin I 'gear heading it hard'? LOL I burned up two auto then spent $5,200 on a built one. So, auto's are expensive but I wouldn't have it any other way towing my 5er.
I'd not get a regular cab, especially if this is a primary vehicle. If you have the dough auto is the way to go with a stand alone controller like a PCS then you could shift it at will, this would be idea IMO. If you like to stir the stick then install a SMF and do a short shifter mod.

Well I wasnt...but you are the youngest kid on here....lol How is your new set up running by the way? I did read all your build post wow.....
I say go with a ZF......but with that being said, I am considering doing an auto in my project truck for a couple different reasons. Not sure if I will or not, but I am considering it. And just a little FYI....any ECSB 4x4 you find will be a manual. They didn't put autos in them.

Good point I for got bout that.....and most 250 cc are short beds....and 350cc are long. ....my brother found a really nice 250xclb it's an auto but he like she color and miles...I told him it can be a 5 speed....
Yeah, all 250 crew cabs are short beds. If you can find all the parts, a ZF swap isn't bad at all. Without a complete donor truck, finding the parts is the hardest part! LOL!

Yeah I was luck to have a 93 I used....but I have seen a few rc 350 srw....for like 1200...to 1500....bad transfer case or rearend....With them you get your d60...and 5 speed
