Bad Turbo Seal? Maybe?

Ok, I am still running through trying to get my truck back on the road. You may already know my entire story, but here is a quick run down. The Turbo went out, so I ordered a rebuilt one and installed it. The oil that went through the Turbo, clogged the DPF and Cat. I removed them and put a full race pipe on and removed the EGR. Installed a Flo-Pro elbo and the DPF-r to remove the codes. Installed resistors to fool the ECU into thinking the EGR Flapper was still there. The problem now is the truck is the truck is smoking and I am losing oil. There is no miss and the engine runs like a top! I am thinking that maybe the turbo seal in the new turbo is bad and letting oil by. My question is, is there a way to see if it is coming through the turbo seal for sure? Also, can this seal be replaced by me? I replaced the turbo's myself so I am fairly handy with some tools.

Well a turbo expert I'm not, I think I would be half tempted to spend the money and have a diesel shop figure out whats going on. I remember your last post and you did a lot of work to it, could be the turbo needs repair, any warranty on that.

If you pull the turbo and the backside is oily and the vanes and all are not then I'd be inclined to think it is a seal.

This turbo have a warranty on it? Do an exchange.

Seals can be replaced but that would be taking the turbo apart.

I don't remember from your first go around, did you clear the DPF before you started it with the new turbo, if not maybe the excess pressure did the seal in???

Thanks for the quick replies guys. (I knew you 2 would be he first to reply). I am sure there is a warranty on the turbos, I will have to find out. I didn't get any paperwork on them. They were ordered throuh a shop that doesn't work on these types of trucks, but he could get the parts and let me finance them through him. No, I did not clear the DPF after I installed the turbo, but as soon as the truck started, it popped the gaskets at the up pipes. That was how I knew it was completely stopped up. I also figure that if that is the case, they would deny the warranty and I would have to replace the seal myself after sending them off, paying for shipping and waiting another month. That is why I was wondering about being sure it was in the turbo itself and no getting introduced somewhere else. I love this truck so much, I just want to be able to drive it again!!

I wish I had a competent diesel shop to take it to. I live in a small town of like 15,000 people and none of the shops will touch it. They will work on the 7.3's and the 6.0's all day long, but as soon as I say 6.4 they start shaking their head.

You would first drop the down pipe and look if its wet then you will more then likly have to pull and separate the 2 to see what one is leaking.

Ok, I pulled the turbos and there is excessive oil in the low pressure turbo. I contacted the rebuilder that did the turbo and he said they are tested before they are sent out the door and there there must be a problem with the truck that caused the seal to go bad. (he even mentioned a plugged DPF). My question is, I have seen the kits to replace the seals, but has anyone done it? I don't mind tackling it myself, but I would like to hear from someone that has done it before. Anyone seen documentation on dismantling the turbos?

I have not, sorry.
What you should do in conjunction is drop the dpg and chevk it for face pluging.
Also once the pipe had filled with liquid the dpf and doc are basicly trash and good for core value only... from a technical point of view.

The DPF and the CAT are both gone and have been replaced with a race pipe.
