Currently have a 2000 F250 with the 6.8 V-10. With my new car hauler, it is killing my gas mileage so I am thinking of moving up to a Powerstroke as all my buddies w/ haulers comment on getting approx the same MPG with or without the trailer.

With my budget, it looks like I'll be looking at the 2003-2008 model years for a Powerstroke.

Is there anything I should know about diesels for specific years?? What kind of MPG should I expect?? I was told by another Super Duty owner that there are certain years to stay away from. Is that true??

6.0 and 6.4 will be the motors in that range. You might find a 7.3 but I wouldn't count on it. 6.0 and 6.4 have the same basic issues revolving around the oil cooler, and the headgasket. And the 6.4 will get poor fuel mileage due to increased emissions requirements by the epa.
